I love (for varying definitions of "love") when a man hears about someone being accused of sexual harassment/assault/whatever and says "well, he never did that to ME" ... as though it would be likely.

And the ones who want to know why women don't act immediately.

For instance - a number of years ago I worked in an office where there was one man who would tell disgusting sexual jokes, make constant comments about women's purported sexual activities, often when there were VIPs present. Women complained and were brushed off. At one point, there was a "peer review" of the office's business practices - where several officers of companies who'd been trained in the process and were aware of business best practices would come in, review how the office was working and make recommendations. They were unanimous that this particular man was a lawsuit waiting to happen ... but nothing was ever done (except women leaving or, if staying, avoiding him as much as possible). He left in his own good time.

Every time another man is busted for sexual harassment yet that self-admitted motherfucking sexual predator is allowed to stay in the Oval Office, I get closer and closer to TOTAL HULK RAGE. Burn it all down.

I sit near a manager's office, and I keep overhearing him having conversations with people about sexual harassment as a current even of topical interest. I can't really hear enough to even know what anyone's actual opinions are but the "I'm discussing this rationally" tone of voice is enough to really annoy me.

Totally a me-problem, I am aware.

I'm really pessimistic about this tax thing, so my tolerance for the rest of "reality" is very slim right now.

I've been in burn-it-all-down mode for (checks watch) about a year and two weeks now. Between the people who have been fired, are nowhere near firing, are about to vote a mall-haunting teen raper into national office and are poised to kill net neutrality and push through the tax disaster, the only change in my outlook for this week is that burning may not be enough.

However, I am so, so glad you are at last being heard and taken seriously instead of gaslighted, hippo. It's long overdue.

(I am feeling especially grim right now because my desk is covered with the contents of a packet from a desperate parent who is the saddest kind of opposite, advocating fiercely for more aggressive intervention on a child who is surely doomed because they're convinced the entire medical team is gaslighting them and someone, somewhere has access to the miracle that will fix everything. I'm just an admin and it is gutting me; the nurses and doctors who have to explain it to the parent yet again will be completely wrecked.)

I'm pretty well convinced if all the rapists and abusers just disappeared instantly and left vacancies in their homes and work places we would surely survive, and be the better for it. Yeah, they all can go. It is a risk I am willing to take.
