So there is something I can do, besides scream like a woman?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Cover-letter writing question - if I'm applying for a job that, on paper, is below my current seniority level and not in my field of expertise, is it better to gloss over that or call it out? ("I'm amazing, interview me" vs "I know my resume isn't what you were expecting, but here's why I'm amazing, interview me.")

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

is it better to gloss over that or call it out

If you can give a good explanation of why, I think it's good to address it. Ask a Manager had an example recently that isn't exactly the same, but might help?

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I was just going to mention maybe searching Ask A Manager!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I always appreciate it when people call it out, but that's a data point of one.

Strongly considering going back to school. Am worried too old.

And the line I like about this is, 10 years from now you'll still be 10 years older, but you could be 10 years older with [degree/credentials/experiences]!

I've been voting since I was 18, and for the first time, I messed up my ballot. I skimmed one of the races and thought we were supposed to vote for no more than 2 candidates for municipal judge, but it was really 1 candidate. When I fed my ballot into the machine, the Message of Shame came up. (Well, no. It just said something like "Category is over-voted.")

So the very nice poll workers got to use all their training and void my ballot and give me a new one, which I managed to fill out properly. Sheesh, municipal judge candidates! So much stress!

Our wings are not tired.

Did you vote for Pat Buchanan? Alas, the Palm Beach County ballot didn't bring up a Message of Shame when people voted for him in error. (still sobbing)

We had no election here today. Best of luck to all that did! I'll surely watch returns tonight with high hopes.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

It's in the 40s and raining here. I guess November decided to show up after all.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Virginia rural counties report first, so don't panic at early count. So I keep telling myself.

I have a friend who works at Kohl's. she likes it, especially the employee discount.

msbelle, I've been wanting a pull-down Ladder into my attic, but I was told I don't have enough room for one. It's just a small square opening. Did you have to have a large opening to fit yours?

brillig

When the rest of the mineral rights money comes free, after tax time next year, I'm going to replace the twin bed I got with a full-sized. I feel bad for getting rid of a bed that's been used for only a year and a half, at that point, but is there really a market for used beds? I guess when the mattress people I buy from haul it away, they'll have something they can do with it.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

David Wasserman at fivethirtyeight is calling the race for Northam. (Probably jumping the gun, but apparently it's looking good.) Harry Enten says the Dems are looking favoured to sweep all the Va statewide offices. [link]
