I got rid of $90 in candy-a full large drinktub- (skittles and nerds are 'good stuff') in 2 hrs. But I'm a handful giver. Kids were impressed.

Lotsa little black girls dressed up as Wonder Woman, many with the moves, made me happy. Also had a 5 year old tornado. It was his idea. I know him & his fam from swim lessons, so asked what he'd be in the pool. Brow furrowed for a bit before he said "Hurr'cane!" Dad told me he's really into weather right now.

Did a half day of work, errands and then washed every fucking window in my house. Well, not the basement. But the rest. Inside and out. Not too many streaky bits at sunset. And then B came over to see if I had a spare iPhone cable, and thanks to Pumpkin, I did (the one she was chewing on. Not busted totally, but way too toothsome.)

And while I waited for all my dang devices to do their os updates, wiped down the livingroom blinds, which maaaaaaybe got done after the ceiling work last summer, but maybe not. I wrapped the, then, and they were pretty dusty.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Ha! I went to bring my bowl back inside, and it was empty! And there were big kids running down the street. I don't even mind if one group took it all, I'm just glad kids are out!

when i die, please bake my ashes into a brick and use me to hit fascists.

My neighborhood is incredibly walkable and yet there are a bunch of parents shadowing in cars as the kids walk between houses. I want to scream at those parents and throw things. GET SOME DAMN EXERCISE AND BE WITH YOUR KIDS.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Liese, I'm glad you got a good bunch of kids! We're just a couple of streets over from a major street that gets tons of trick or treaters, but we almost never get any at our house.

Did you know that two kids will bring home twice as much candy as one kid? Because, good lord, we are overflowing.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Aww, hurr'cane!

My neighborhood was almost all car shadowed, but we have no sidewalks and there are ditches between all the driveways. And then with the kinda long stretches between the houses, I think it was advisable here.

I did the last refill, right at "closing time," so I think I'll stay out a bit longer, but it probably won't be my "until I run out" plan. It's looking like I bought exactly right, so thank goodness for my neighbor's heads up. That was a lot of candy! It was probably about 80 bucks, and I was at "y'all can take a few" which generally meant between 2-4 per kid.

We have hit the abashed teenager portion of the evening, ha! I'm good with teenagers, so it's fun to hit the right balance of needling.

I really did, Kate! I have no doubt that we were well over the 200 mark. It was super fun, and it was really great for me to be able to meet the neighborhood a little bit. It would have been nice to meet more of the parents, what with all the car shadowing and all, but still, it feels good to be a part of this community.

That sounds awesome, Liese.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

That's great, Liese!

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Ok! I think it has finally quieted down.

Yeah, it was great, Jesse! Halloween might be an odd time to make this sort of a declaration, or maybe it's just a Buffista time, but I am approaching close to sarameg levels of love for my neighborhood.

It is super neighborhoody. I now have met all my neighbors for at least two doors down on each side and across the street. There's the car repairman, a songwriter, the family that's been here for fifty years, a couple of good ol' boys, an interracial couple with a Trump flag(!), a lady who just retired from the theater where she did costumes and puppetmaking for twenty years. Every single person I meet says, "everybody in this neighborhood looks out for each other." One took out my trash while I was on the road, one picked up a package for me off my porch. One mows my lawn, and I gave them my CSA share while I was gone.

All the houses sit back off the street a bit but everybody has porches or at least a front step. Nobody has garages, it's all carports and driveway parking, but the driveways are long, so it's not a hassle with street parking. I leave my porch light on all the time as a matter of principle, and I sit out there a good bit, and go visit with my neighbors when they're sitting on theirs a good bit, so I always know all the gossip, and I often have some of my own to report!

It feels a million miles away from city life, and yet, it's literally less than five miles to almost anything I need to get to: to Music Row, to downtown, to my post office, to all the venues, to the airport, to my boss' house. It's a bit longer if I need to head up to where most of my friends live, like where Kate is, or up to Opryland for shows, but honestly, I used to drive forty-five minutes to the grocery, so everything is super convenient. It's right off the major highways, but there's street level ways to get everywhere, so even though there is increasing traffic, it doesn't seem to really bother me unduly. I guess, particularly since I was considering LA!

It's just perfect for me, and the house is great, too. I really love it.

I'm happy for you, Liese. And amused I've become a standard of neighborhood carrots.
