I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I would accept that outcome.

brillig

Tonight begins my vacation. I work to the end of support hours on our phone lines, 6 PM, and any customers still in the queue have to be taken before we go home. I was wrapping up a call at 6, happy to be done, and I saw there was a customer on line. Three people were on standby status, and I figured one of them would take it. However, one by one, they all logged off their computers and headed out. One more person went on standby, I had just finished the write-up on my call, waited about 30 seconds, then took the call myself, 8 minutes after the end of the shift. The other person disappeared very quickly.

And as I started working with the new customer, the interoffice chat system popped up with a private message from my supervisor: "Thank you!" So someone else was watching and wondering who was going to bite the bullet at the end of shift on a Friday night. So beaucoup brownie points for me, especially since my supervisor know I'm on vacation now.

I hope you get amply rewarded for that, Connie.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I want Trump to flee to Russia this weekend, where he resigns and never comes back.

That would be acceptable. But I really want him to spend the rest of his life in a US prison, with nary a flake of gold leaf to be found.

Our wings are not tired.

I really want to see Mr. LockHerUp Flynn taken away. There is no fitting Trump punishment that will satisfy me. Financial ruin and Melania turning on him would help. My bitterness runs deep.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Got a pedicure this morning. Now my toenails are sparkly gold with colored confetti.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Twitter tells me that Trump is having epic tantrums over the Mueller indictments, and I"m going to cling to that. God, I hope he's miserable.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

So, I got a text around 1pm today. It's from a friend (sort of—I haven't heard from her in over a year) who's daughter is getting confirmed in a local UU congregation. Tomorrow, at 9am. She was inviting me to the confirmation, followed by brunch at a ritzy restaurant and a party back at her place.

I find myself reluctant to change my weekend plans and, given the brunch place, my entertainment budget, on less than 24 hours notice. Especially since, what with the timing, I suspect that someone bowed out at the last minute, leaving an empty seat in the reservations and opening it up to her second string "friends".

I've already been to her daughter's baptism in a different church, followed by lunch and whatnot. I think I'm going to give this event a pass.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Send a card. That should actually be enough.

Guys, I want to jump and squee at the news but basically I'm avoiding it all--I can't help expecting that it all comes to nothing and I don't think I can live with raised hopes and expectations, followed by more (the inevitable, I'm afraid) crushing disappointment. I'm totally aware that's not how other people deal, and that's fine. I just wanted to, I don't know, let y'all know what a supertitious old biddy I am, I guess.

As you were.
