I'm so sorry, Sophia. Lots of ~ma to your family.
Not stupid, Pix. "Everything happens for a reason" responses make me want to do violence. That must be terrible to have such a good home dangled in front of you and snatched away.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

Sophia, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I have been known to laugh bitterly at people who said that to me in the past. Or, IIRC right after my Mom passed away, I burst into tears at them. EDIT: Not that it was a deliberate, conscious reaction, but it certainly shut those people up.
So sorry for your loss, Sophia. Keeping your family in my thoughts
Yeah, I get that it's meant well, but sometimes things just happen, and those things suck. We need to be okay with just letting them suck and letting ourselves go through that grieving process.
The reason this was a particularly difficult person to hear it from is that she a former high school classmate (and former roommate, actually) who is a real estate agent...in southeastern Connecticut. I've looked: I could get a huge house for $300K less than a mile from the ocean where she works. So when she talks about how her clients often fall in love with a house and then find something even better, she really isn't living in our reality where there has been exactly one house that fit our needs in our price range in a 30 mile radius since we started looking. One. And it got stolen from us by an unscrupulous agent (who has earned honorary Tino status). And no, it isn't likely we will find something else that good.
For those not on my FB feed, I think this sums up the market nicely: A house in the area we are looking for $600K: See what I found on #Zillow! [link]
I have to laugh at that one. Because you just have to.
ETA: None of this is about her, to be clear. She's a good person and is trying to be comforting. It's just hard to hear.
PS I love this place. Thank you for listening and being empathetic and smiting those who hurt One of Us. In that spirit, the Empress texted me a particularly wonderful smiting of Tino the Agent earlier, which I feel you would all enjoy:
May he always have that itchy, achy, unreachable feeling you get in the soles of your feet when you're really high up in the air and afraid of falling.
In his balls.
Forever.
Perfect smiting!
wish I had that skill.
I'm certain she will also provide a smiting for your landlord the next time she's around these parts! She is very, very good at smiting.
Sophia, I'm sorry for your loss. ~ma to your family.
beekaytee, I hope your lawyer can help!
That is a perfect curse for Agent Tino.

I may have to ask directly. This is a need now.
Sophia I'm so sorry for your loss
