Simon: I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can... How do I know you won't kill me in my sleep? Mal: You don't know me, son. So let me explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

I went to Wendy's for dinner tonight, and the very chatty kid at the counter said, "I can't believe how foggy it is." It took me about five minutes to get him to believe that it was smoke from fires hundreds of miles away. I had to be quite blunt about "I'd like to order my dinner now." I heard him getting yelled at later for not working fast enough. Poor kid, I hope he can work on his efficiency and still get to interact with people.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

sending out the Dad ma~~~~

My folks are still recovering from Matthew. They are in CO for this hurricane, but I really don't want them to come home to a major mess. Plus I have a ton of folks to watch for in FL

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

The latest storm surge projections for Irma are definitely in yikes territory. [link]

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Third day in a row of waking up for a 7AM meeting. This is not working for me. Also, the news is stupid and scary.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Is that A View From the Bridge?

Yes. It's a remount of the West End/Broadway production. This week I'm surrounded by associate designers with charming London accents.

I read about the West End production and it sounds astonishing.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Best thoughts for good outcomes all the way around!

I had a houseguest last night, and didn't sleep well, mostly because we went out to dinner and I drank too much water, so I had to pee! But didn't wake up all the way to actually get it over with. I hate when I do that.

Librarian Warlord

Some ~ma for my neighbor's family: she's from St. Thomas, and while her parents evacuated, much of the rest of her family did not. Her Uncle is missing and there's really no way and no one to look for him, yet. They also say much of St John is destroyed.

So much of the news is about the British Virgin Islands, and not the U.S.!

Our wings are not tired.

So much ~ma for your friends and all in the islands. Pictures from there are just awful. They say they are used to it, but you never get used to that kind of destruction. I think St. Thomas did better than St. John.

I am completely distracted by this hurricane. Ugh, at least most of my customers will be closed by mid-day today. Shutting down servers and unplugging everything that has a cord. For many it is BTDT on power surges.

Kids have to work today and are talking about maybe going to stay with a cousin in Alabama, or staying. Hope they don't stay. I'm even good with DH going to Alabama rather than here because closer, but I don't want to have them out of touch as the big bad rolls by.

Our wings are not tired.

My state's hideous selection for governor actually is sounding competent in his news conferences. Still hate him, but credit where credit is due.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

My sister works at a women's shelter in Miami, and is expected to work during the hurricane. I'm really hoping the entire county is evacuated so she can leave without abandoning her residents.
