Had another job interview, which went well. I'm doing an on-site interview on Monday.
Two downsides:
1) They're doing a background check. I'm not sure where my college diploma is.
2) It's in Downers Grove, which Google Maps says would take between 50 minutes and an hour and 25 minutes to drive each way.
It's a 3 month to hire gig. I'd move if I got the permanent position.

How do they even find out stuff about my character, reputation, etc. What is "mode of living"?
Maybe they don't want people who've lived in a commune? Or a crack house?
I've found that hydrating helps avoid hangovers, but that's not exactly an unexpected headache out of the blue.
From time to time, drinking water has helped a tension headache, but a migraine is another beast entirely. Water definitely doesn't help migraines, except when it allows me to take meds.

In a serious background check, like for the CIA or whatever, they interview people who know you. For a regular job, they probably just check you have the degrees you claim and maybe a credit check.

I saw one of those interviews happening in a Dunkin Donuts once.
We once had the FBI descend to do a background on a former coworker. Basically everyone freaked out (complicated by only supposed to confirm dates of employment per HR, but fed agency cooperation...) Former coworker got the job in FBI IT.
Supposably, my first smartphone arrives Thursday. Bets on whether I'll ignore it until the weekend... have to enter in all contacts manually, set up apps & passwords (oh fuck, what's my pwd here?) and all that...
Some of my brother's friends and teachers, etc., were interviewed when he was getting Navy security clearances. Very weird feeling.
