It's my estimation that... every man ever got a statue made of him, was one kind of sumbitch or another.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

yeah, I took a look at the time, jumped up from my desck and went to the other side of the office. I peered out the windo and someone handed me eclipse glasses and I saw the 76% totality we got here. I squeaked quite loudly and said "This is AWESOME" which made the rest of the watchers laugh.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I was running an experiment during the totality, so I watched on NASA tv.(They didn't show it from where I am, but a couple other places, so I did get to see some.)

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I am disappointed I didn't get to see Mercury. I really missed my telescope and its solar filter. Which, it turns out, I didn't actually need to sell, after all, because I have the house and not a tiny apartment. But oh well.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I am totally down with a Buffista Diversity F2F! Maybe in conjunction with Daniel's next family reunion. That would be fantastic! Heaven knows I have not yet reached Anti-racism perfection, but I know enough to keep trying, keep working, keep learning.

As my mom's family is from New York, my dad is from Florida and his family from all over the South and I qualify for DAR membership on both sides of the family, I have ancestors who served on both sides of the war. Maybe I should have mentioned that in the noted discussion, but she never once asked me about my life or background before telling me how plush, priviledged and insolated from real life I have been.

Apparently Trump looked directly at the sun during the eclipse. Because of course he did.

"Science, you're not the boss of me! I'm the gottam POTUS, I do what I want!"

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Apparently Trump looked directly at the sun during the eclipse. Because of course he did.

If he burned out his retinas he'll be unable to read notes or his teleprompter. It'll be all off the cuff, all the time. I predict war with Kyrgyzstan‎ by the weekend.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

Stupid Iowa had stupid thunderstorms.

And, there was one moment when the clouds parted enough for a quick peek but I was too late to get outside for it. stupid slow coworkers.

I'm pouting.

Compassionately intolerant

It was so weird.

I was pretty blase about the eclipse, but had guests over so we went into the yard to see if the dogs reacted and to enjoy the promised dip in temperature.

In DC, it didn't even get as dark as a mildly cloudy day. And, no cicada singing. No dogs freaking out. No lower humidity.

I was told there would be cake!!

That only really happens if you're in the totality path.

I'm overthinking getting a smartphone. I have a $150 balance on my virgin idiot phone (and keys are starting to stick.) virgin is offering a$50/mo unlimited plan with purchase of an iPhone, with first year of service for $1. Overkill for me, but...this is a nobrainer, right?

I had an eye exam today. Going for progressive lenses. After the doctor put in the dilation drops he handed me a pair of eclipse glasses and suggested I run out and look before the dilation got too far along. It was at about 35% at that point, looking like a cookie with a bite out of it. Very cool. Then it clouded over.
