Gud, it's unpossible that TCLBITW is starting a career! And that her younger brother is in a college-high school senior year.
Unpossible, I say. Congrats to them, and to you for getting them this far.
I refrain from comment on any other family member.
Well now he's said that Obama is going to go down in history as the most narcissistic, racist president so I am rejecting him

I've hit the point where, when people (even loved ones) say things like this, I just laugh and laugh. That is genuinely all I can do. (And then I unfollow/unfriend on FB.)
Sorry if my posts are triggering. Maybe I shouldn't vent.
I'm legitimately curious why he would think Obama was the most racist president. I'd go with Andrew Jackson there.

Okay, I'm going to get all-capsy here, and I'm doing it out of affection.
YOU NEED TO KEEP POSTING HERE. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO VENT TO US. WE LOVE YOU AND WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY AND WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU'RE DOING. DON'T YOU DARE STOP POSTING ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON.
t the over-protective tag about you people never closes
I've noticed that it's pretty much impossible to argue with a Trump supporter without them, unprompted, making some outrageous claim about Obama and/or Hillary, i.e., Obama is going to go down in history as the most narcissistic, racist president; another I heard recently was that Obama *hates* the Red States. There really isn't any evidence for their claims, it's all just projection.

Literally all projection!! It's stunning to me.
It has been tricky with my brother here visiting. A family friend and resident of Canada said something appropriate about Trump and my brother piped up that he doesn't like Trump (he was a Ben Carson fan), but he had to vote for him because it would have been worse if Clinton took Florida. We agreed to not talk about Trump any more. At least they are vastly outnumbered by sane relatives, but we do have a tiny minority of friends and family here that aren't horrified that he is president. The only way I can tolerate their presence, or have some as FB friends is if they never talk about it. It is just inconceivable to me and I refuse to engage with them because it would end very badly.
What Jilli said, okay?
I do check up on you people on FB, but I limit my time there. It's so easy to get sidetracked onto someone's reaction post to some current horror or other and just keep sideslipping. I don't have the time, the bandwidth, or the mental/emotional capacity for that on anything like a regular basis. I never ever post anything on FB. I don't want to talk with random strangers about how I feel about anything.
I'll engage here because I trust you all, and this space. I will post on my DW account (which is still auto-xposting to LJ), and I read and react to friends' posts both places. I reblog a lot, and comment some, on Tumblr. I find twitter impenetrable and fatally frustrating--I'll read a ref'd tweet from someone I know, but navigating the labyrinth of reply is incomprehensible. Life's too short, so I just don't do that.
I skim a lot of news. I'm basically so appalled discussion is impossible. I listen to folks I trust, but can rarely bring myself to comment, and as I said, offering up my opinion to strangers for debate is horrifying, so I don't do that.
I'm not judging anyone else's method of managing. But I don't know how else to survive and function at this political point in time.
My FB posts are all either to Friends only, or Friends with non-political types excluded. So political stuff is really just preaching to the choir, but if I don't already know you to be sane I don't really want to engage with you. It is just too exhausting. I gave it my best shot before the election, but clearly nothing can change these people's minds. All I can do is whatever possible to get more sane people to vote.
