I took the morning off because I felt like shit when I woke up. As I walked to my desk, the guy on the other side of the cubicle wall looked up, blinked, then grinned. "Well, look who decided to come to work. Look at what the cat dragged in."
Normally I'm beyond annoyed at that sort of thing because it makes me uncomfortable to be noticed and commented on, but I was quite pleased. A, I enjoy that guy, and B, some times it is nice to be seen and have your existence recognized. It's a friends-at-work thing, but it meets my daily converse-with-a-human-in-meatspace needs.
My neck hurst and I think a combo of watching so much on my computer and also not sleeping great is the culprit. I am going raise my computer screen up so I am not looking down so much.
Could not get the vending machine to give me food. It let me swipe my card, told me I had a credit of 3.75 and then inexplicably reduced that to $1.25 when I tried to open the little slidey door and would not open.
Making do with raiding my candy dish.
Timelies all!
Got a cavity filled at the dentist this morning. Luckily, by lunchtime the numbness had worn off.
I don't do podcasts; people yammering when I'm trying to work makes me very nervous and irritable. So I used to drive my coworkers crazy playing whale songs and Dan Gibson's Solitude albums: rain, surf, trickling creeks, and birdsong. I can do music, but no lyrics because they get tangled up with text or what I'm working on. And a pounding beat will turn me snapping vicious.
I can't do podcasts or audiobooks if I need to pay attention to what I'm doing. Unless it's a book I'm already familiar with - I have cassettes of Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter (thanks, msbelle!) in the car. I like music when I'm studying, but I'm like Bev - no lyrics because they get mixed in with the subject at hand.
Timelies! I'm checking in from gorgeous Halifax, where I've been having a lovely vacation. Tonight Sue kindly met up for drinks, dinner, and a delightful conversation. It was so nice to meet you, Sue!

It's starting to get creepy how much we are the same person, because I am the same way -- I can't listen to an audiobook while I'm driving unless I've already read it. Otherwise I focus on it and not on the road, which is bad.

I tend to focus on the road and lose track of what's going on in the book. Which, if you'll forgive my saying, feels like the wiser choice.
