I'm on pins and needles about the retrial of the University of Cincinnati police officer who killed an unarmed black man, Sam Dubose, during a traffic stop. The first trial resulted in a hung jury after 25 hours of deliberation, and the jury in the second trial has just hit about 26 hours of deliberation.
A second mistrial is going to be just as bad as an acquittal. I don't have a great feeling about this.
I really think that *if* the officer is convicted, it will be because he was a campus officer, not a city of Cincinnati officer. But even so, after all the fucking acquittals of LEOs who've killed black men, I feel like a conviction here would be a damn miracle.
Teppy, how was the jury split the first time?
Off the top of my head, 8 to convict and 4 to acquit, but I could be wrong. Let me Google.
Okay, it was 4 jurors wanted a murder conviction, 4 wanted a voluntary manslaughter conviction, and 4 stuck with not guilty.
The current jury is pretty damn white.
t edit
Yeah, 7 white women, 2 white men, 2 black women, 1 black man. Not awesome.
Yeah, that doesn't sound promising.
Okay, the news says the jury is sequestered overnight again. Jesus.
I like celery in many things—chicken salad, tuna salad, soups, crudité plates. I haven't tried celery root soup, but I'd give it a shot if it were in front of me. I draw the line at celery soda, though.
I once made Cream of Celery soup because I had an overabundance.
I am cracking UP. I bought new running shoes online (rather than a brick and mortar store) because I was buying the same brand/style/size as my last pair. I swear that the picture online made the uppers look silvery grey.
MINT GREEN. With purple-y accents. They are hilariously ugly. I would never have bought this color if I knew that was the color, but I'm not going to the trouble to return them, because they're for exercise, not fashion. I'll just have frog feet for a year.
Green/grey is really difficult online shopping. I have bought things for designers many times that they thought were grey, and when they came they were green- enough that I always read the description and ask if they really want green if I have any doubt!
