msbelle, uses for your platter? Put it in the center of your table--or your coffee table, or the top of a bookcase in the living room. Add a few candles and a clear vase of flowers. Or a clear glass bowl with floating candles and floating blossoms. Or use it for cheese and crackers, or cold cuts.

I have a Dansk meat carving board I have used once for Thanksgiving turkey and once for Christmas ham in the years since I bought it when H was stationed in Germany. It hangs on the wall and makes me smile when I see it. Now I use it to put a bowl of dip in the center and scatter crackers, chips, cheese and a small knife, or cubed cheeses, and fruit slices around the bowl. It gets used, it makes me happy.

If your platter makes you happy, keep it and use it--you'll get your $20 use out of it.

In flip-flop/thong related things... I will never forget the faces of the young male actors when an older costume designer told them their costume for a prison scene would be "thongs and socks". In her head, in addition to the orange prison jumpsuit. Their eyes were so large!

Hahaha! Especially because I can imagine two different ways to interpret that as a costume in toto.

I don't think she has ever met Musk (yet), but she has worked for Tesla the last couple years partly because she is such a fan. She visited a Tesla display at the Fort Lauderdale boat show and was talking to the sales person. She was too young to take a test drive (!), but she is a huge auto person in general and was checking them out. While talking to the people there they were blown away with her knowledge of Nikola Tesla and Elon Musk because she had done a research paper on them in high school. They ended up asking her to apply for a job, and the rest is history. She has been promoted a number of times already. t son's gf loves her job more than carrots

So I'm turning into That Lady. I get to my pool, get in, they announce they are closing early on a hot Saturday to do in-service. They * always* do in-service after hours. It's so inconsiderate to the community. New pool mgmt sucks. So I wrote my second email this week to complain.

I left & went to another pool, so that was fine, but I was grumpy.

Cider was good, but I *cannot* stop looking at the news article with the pictures of the crash. It's heartbreaking.

Oh Steph, how terrible.

He's doing okay. I called him a little bit ago. He took a nap earlier and listened to the CDs my brother sent him for Fathers' Day. While we were talking, my aunt (his last remaining sibling) called him on his cell phone (since it's 2017 and he still doesn't have Call Waiting [I don't even know]), so he got off the phone with me to talk to her, which I think is good.
