ok - first draft - now edited.
I've taken a pretty long break from the dating world to raise my son. He is now an older teenager and able to stay alone so it seemed a good time to meet some people and possibly find a relationship. Part of raising my son brought me back to Texas (where I grew up) from New York (where I lived for almost 20 years).
In my spare time I listen to both public radio stations in the area, KERA for news (I do not watch any tv news), and KXT for music. I watch several tv shows and between Netflix and Amazon Prime will eventually catch up on any cable shows I missed. I think we are living in a golden age of television and there seems to be an endless supply of quality shows. In the past two years I have started going to a local gym and I try to go 4-5 times a week. I have also made it to a couple of theater productions (Book of Mormon and Wicked) and outdoor concerts (Old 97s County Fair and Bedford Blues Fest).
I like eating out and ethnic food, specifically Thai, Ethiopian, and Indian. I like to try locally owned places rather than chain restaurants. Same for stores and other experiences. I find it boring to travel and see the same stores/restaurants/buildings in every town, you have to hunt for the uniqueness.
I do have some pretty strong beliefs about things. I prefer Star Wars to Star Trek. I think tea and coffee should both be unsweetened. I think the Designated Hitter is horrible and do not even want to talk about the no-pitch walk. I like both cats and dogs and do not think that one should not have to choose. I think there are times to be serious, but those times are less frequent than many people believe.
Let's see what else. If you've read this far, âï¸. I like to read mysteries. I think clowns are usually creepy. I like roller coasters and carousels. The aesthetic of the 50s and early 60s is awesome. I will buy things just because of the packaging. I recycle and compost. I'm open minded and skew liberal on the political front. I have a mixed race family and also gay relatives. I have lived in three different states and am very open to, I would even say strongly considering, moving to a fourth in the next five years.
