Wesley: Hey. Hey, Gunn. Is something weird going on? … Charles, you just peed on my shoes. Gunn: I'll be damned. That's weird.

Our wings are not tired.

so I'm going to have to deal with a lot of congratulations this morning

Congratulations! It is good to be recognized.

Pants by Friday!! Woo!

My contribution to #smallblessings: this morning DH was about to make eggs and we had none. On his way out the door I asked him if he would go to TJs and get the better natural eggs instead of the Publix hormone factory eggs, and not only did he agree, he agreed wholeheartedly and expressed his desire to be more mindful of that stuff.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I hope it works out well for you, flea!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

In somewhat unexpected news, I got a new job yesterday. I'm going to be the vice-boss in my department, and will have direct reports.

Yay, flea! At least, I hope it's a yay.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I am at work and I ate real food and I have decided that if I feel ok during the day I will just deal and do everything I can to keep strength up by eating whether it sounds good or not. My head is anxiety filled and I am not getting much down, but I am getting something done.

That's a reasonable choice. Fingers crossed for feeling ok.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Congratulations, Flea! I hope the new position works out well for you.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Zen, I hear ya. :( I am leaving on my first business trip in a YEAR tomorrow. Have I done anything? No. Am I ready at all? No. Do I have a million work things to do tomorrow before I leave, never mind stuff like packing? YES.

Seriously, it's such a relief to know it's not just me. Other adult professional humans also have get-up-and-do-it problems!

Plus the fact that somehow it all does get done just reinforces my subconscious feeling that I don't really have to get it done early. Last-minute panic is the emotional equivalent of my mom standing over me yelling DO IT NOW.

Can vicariously doing anything count as an experience?

Sure, just a different kind of experience than doing it yourself! People yelling at the football teams on their tvs are vicariously playing football, right? That's an experience.

I'm sorry you're having trouble doing things, I feel ya. You will eventually be on your trip and have a good time and if you don't manage to pack everything it will be okay. And it's ok if you can't believe that right now, it's still true.

It's true! Once I'm sitting at the gate waiting to board, I'll be fine. You know what, I once stopped on my way to Dulles airport to buy a larger suitcase and re-packed everything, in the back of my car in the parking lot. It was my first international trip on my own and I was nervous.

Pants by Friday would be a great band name.

Yeah it would.

Congratulations, flea! Recognition of your value and awesomeness! Hopefully also more money? Mo' money fewer problems, I don't care what the rap guys say.

No one is ever really ready to sing Beethoven.

On his way out the door I asked him if he would go to TJs and get the better natural eggs instead of the Publix hormone factory eggs, and not only did he agree, he agreed wholeheartedly and expressed his desire to be more mindful of that stuff.

Fist bump to your DH!

Today I got to quote the Chicago Manual of Style to prove I was right on a style point to the manager who's rewriting our own style manual.

(For values of "right" that include arbitrary matters that become correct by common agreement and/or appeal to authority.)

Since my brother is getting his Masters in psychology, he and I regularly text each other to engage in an APA vs AMA style manual shit-talking flamewar. Good times.

This is something that I can totes see me doing. Ha!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Congrats flea!

So, for the past few weeks we've had a mysterious loud rattling sound that we couldn't pinpoint, almost every day, in short bursts which start and stop. No matter where you stand in the house, it sounds like someone is running a jackhammer directly over your head (except, there's nothing in the attic with moving parts that can rattle). I've been completely panicky that something important is broken in our HVAC system.

Today, I solved it! When I was leaving to take Aeryn to school, I happened to turn around just in time to see a woodpecker going to town on the tin chimney (that connects to all the ducts in the house). Ha! Caught you, bird!
