So I thought I was coming here with an awful thing to post, but so much less awful than that! Nevertheless, I will post it. I just heard the most racist conversation I've heard in a long time! Will represent with fake names. Ann, a senior person, is in the lobby meeting a visitor, John. Ann's assistant is also standing there. Ann says, "John, I'd like to introduce my new assistant, Jen Wong. Oh! John, you studied East Asia, right? ... I mean, not that that's the only thing about you, Jen! But you do speak Mandarin, right?" As I'm walking away, I hear John trying, and apparently failing, to say something in Mandarin.
I am MORTIFIED. And will try to remember to bring this up in the Microaggressions session I'm going to next week, although honestly, that felt bigger than micro.
