Scruffy Chris Evans usually puts me in a good mood regardless of the tone of the story.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

On the scale of "clean-cut all-American hero" and "those pictures from the Advocate where he looks like a rentboy", he's a few notches up from rentboy.

Took my mom to see Get Out this afternoon, and both of us enjoyed it immensely. I figured out the thing with the armrest stuffing before it happened, but was off base in that I thought the little brother was another of the people wanting Chris' body for his own rather than just a weirdo assistant to the parents.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Saw Niki Caro's The Zookeeper's Wife tonight. Damn is that an incredible story. And, while it's not a perfect film, it made me sad that more films aren't directed by women. So many times throughout I was struck by choices that likely wouldn't have been made by a man.

I was going to say that with Whale Rider and McFarland, USA she's 3 for 3 with me now, but then I realized she did North Country too, which I vaguely remember liking. Girl likes a good underdog story I guess. As do I.

You know, I never saw North Country, but I should. I shall have to add it to my list.

I've just realized that I've watched Fellowship of the Ring more times with the commentary than without. It's become another documentary in my collection, especially the Hobbits' commentary. I love the Making Of stuff on these movies. I may pick up the Hobbit BluRays just for the extras.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I finally watched LaLa Land. It was nice enough. Inoffensive, I guess. Some of the music was enjoyable. But it would have helped if either of the leads had been a better singer. Emma Stone is an excellent actor, but vocally, she's not terribly strong. I'm not sure what all the Oscar buzz was about.
