Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

wow ... I remember reading Dune when it first came out - a serial in ... Analog? I remember the cover of one, with a sandworm on it ... I think I have the magazines packed in a box (I've been hauling my father's books, including old issues of Analog, Galaxy, F&SF, around for years).

Hell yeah to that trailer!

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

I know it's set in the desert and all, but boy, is that ever so grey and brown. I know Villeneuve favours muted palette but Blade Runner 2046 was vibrant and stunning to look at (well, not everyone could be Roger Deakins, I guess) and this... might as well be shot in sepia.

I've never read the book and all I know about this universe is some acid flashback to the David Lynch version from the '80s, and the Children of Dune adaptation from 20-something years ago starring baby James McAvoy (with the weird incest vibe with his sister). Maybe I should try my hand at reading the first book at least.

I guess Paul's Chosen One-ness is not so much with him being a warrior, but more of a spiritual thing? 'Cause I can probably go on a hand-to-hand combat with Chalamet and knock him down. I thought they'd bulk him up a bit, but no, he remains his willowy self.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Because I'm predictable, the only thing I really took away from the trailer is that the Bene Gesserit look AWESOME.

I checked the cast and didn't see the sister - Alia, right? - listed. But the Bene Gesserit do look pretty awesome. I didn't get much of a view of the sandworm ... now THAT should be awesome (I think they got the size right, though).

The sandworm looked suitably awesome to me. And Chalamet looks perfect in all his waifiness. That is weird that there's no Alia listed in the cast.

I can be quite simple, I know, but Dune+Pink Floyd=Grabby Hands for me, apparently

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

Alia and Feyd-Rautha are strangely absent from the cast list. (Ignoring Feyd, I completely understand - it's impossible to improve even a fractional amount on Sting's portrayal in the Lynch version, therefore he should be left out of all future adaptations. But Alia is IMPORTANT, DAMNIT.)

I guess Paul's Chosen One-ness is not so much with him being a warrior, but more of a spiritual thing? 'Cause I can probably go on a hand-to-hand combat with Chalamet and knock him down. I thought they'd bulk him up a bit, but no, he remains his willowy self.

He is supposed to be a warrior, but in more of a very-good-reflexes-because-he-can-kind-of-see-the-future way than a muscles way. That said, Chalamet is the one casting misstep for me. I just don't think the messiah should have hair that fluffy.

I figured that he'd had enough high-level training - in addition to being the Chosen One - that he could win a hand-to-hand fight. And I also figure that after wearing a stillsuit for a while, his hair won't be fluffy ... unless that's the look they're after.

Now I'm going to have to watch for the effects of the stillsuit on the fluffiness of Atreides hair when I watch the movie. I'm sure I wouldn't have noticed without y'all bringing it up!
