Buffista Movies Across the 8th Dimension!
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
There's a broadcast channel that runs older movies ... some good, some terrible. I recently caught one I love - Searching for Bobby Fisher - I'd forgotten how good it was. I can recommend it for good performances (Joe Mantegna, Joan Allen, Ben Kingsley, Lawrence Fishburn as a trash-talking chess hustler!) and a happy ending (which leaves me sniffly). Very sweet.
Bobby Fisher is one of my eternally favorite movies. Everyone in it, except perhaps for Allen, plays against type, and the whole film is good. Really good.
That movie is the reason I follow Judit Polgar
I adore that film.
I went to see Knives Out again with a friend on Friday, and it was just as fun the second time around.
On a related topic, Hollywood Reporter has an interview with the costume designer for the film, with multiple paragraphs dedicated to that white sweater Chris Evans wears. Figured some folks here might be interested: [link]
Also, New Yorker has a splendid interview with Jamie Lee Curtis that is very much worth a read for her anecdotes about Bette Davis alone (Curtis lived in the same building and also did a movie with Davis). The rest of the interview is funny and frank and all around great, too: [link]
Everyone's costumes in Knives Out were SO GOOD. I can't wait to see it again.
That costume article was great. And I do not blame Chris Evans for stealing the coat.
Given the opportunity, I'd totally steal that coat.
Little secret, a lot of times we don't mind if you "steal". Especially if you are nice, and also don't steal rentals!
