Yeah, it's tough. The movie is so perfectly paced and there are multiple reveals that I really do think it's best to go in as unspoiled as possible!
Maybe go by whether or not they've seen and enjoyed his other work? (Okja, Snowpiercer)
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

You guys, Parasite. SO FUCKING GOOD.
Right?? I went to see it again on Friday with a couple of local friends, and knowing the story, it was no less enjoyable. Also fun: watching my friends lose their shit over some of the plot developments. I almost wish I could Eternal-Sunshine my brain so that I could re-experience watching the movie for the first time, haha.
Jesse, a bare-bone description without spoilers would be something like this: It's about two families whose paths get intertwined, one rich and one poor, and it has elements of comedy, drama, and thriller, mixed into a package that's both entertaining and thought-provoking. If your friends have seen and liked Bong Joon Ho's other films, it'd be a bonus, but honestly, I think it would be accessible to anyone as long as they're willing to watch a subtitled film.
So I thought Parasite was fine? I actually might have liked it more if I knew more about what it was, since the only other think I've seen of his was Snowpiercer. And, I mean, obviously stuff happens in it, but it's not like a Twist Movie, so I probably could have read a review!
Emma Stone as Clara Bow? I don't think so.
No.

One of my favorite discoveries of my Century+ of Cinema project so far has been It. So, yeah, I'm also a no.
Took me a moment to realize that you didn't mean Stephen King's It.
Oh, see, I was completely confused.
Took me a moment to realize that you didn't mean Stephen King's It.
Hah, that's why she was called "the 'It' girl"!
Comparing Stephen King's version of It to Clara Bow's version of It is like comparing Willie Nelson's (or Elvis Presley's) version of "Always on My Mind" to the Pet Shop Boys' version of "Always on My Mind." (And there are no prizes for guessing what's playing on my radio right now.)
