I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I only saw The Godfather trilogy a couple of months ago. (My verdict: Eh.)

I still have never seen the third one. I like the first two well enough but Taxi Driver was part of my Great Unseen project and I found it repellent. Like, I could admire some of the filmic qualities, but the misogyny and racism was just too brutal. Scorsese is one of those filmmakers I want to like way more than I actually do when I watch his films and see the subjects he decides to shine a light on. YSMV.

Speaking of Taxi Driver...
For people wanting to check out classics they have never seen, I highly recommend the podcast Unspooled, which is going through the AFI Top 100 list film by film (they roll a 100-sided die to determine the next film they watch). The hosts are film critic Amy Nicholson and comedian Paul Scheer and they are enthusiastic but also very honest with their opinions. I don't always agree with their opinions on individual films, but the episodes are always fun and interesting to listen to. So far they have covered about 40% of the list, including Taxi Driver, but their latest episodes were on 2018 films and how they stack up and also a discussion of the Oscars (which was hilarious).

I do like Unspooled! Also I someday maybe need to see The Godfather. I can't figure out how/why I find it almost impossible to watch a movie- even ones seemingly made for me (like Call MeBy Your Name). I can rewatch favorites and was able to watch And love To All The Guys I Loved Before. But I can really only watch that type of movie. My favorite movies are in three tiers number 1 tier- Enchanted April, Impromptu and Dangerous Liaisons. Second tier- The Awful Truth, It Happened One Night, My Man Godfrey, all of The Thin Man, and anything with Bette Davis. Third tier- Heathers, 10 Things I Hate About You, Clue, and Young Frankenstein. I also really liked Oh Brother Where Art Tahou, War of the Roses and Romancing the Stone.

I did see Taxi Driver on a date. It was a double bill with Breakfast at Tiffany's and I was in my 20s. I think it made me hate both movies

Anyway does anyone have refs for me? Right now I am rewatching Deadwood.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

weirdest double bill EVER. Also Taxi Driver is a horrible date film unless you have been dating for a long time and a film buffs.

I am posting my film watching as I view them on FB. I kinda hate just straight double posting here and there, so I might just do a list of what I've seen every 5-6 movies or so and give my general impression.

I think we were pretentious and wanted to watch classic movies. My idea of a classic movie is a black and white romantic comedy, and his was gritty 70s movies. Needless to say, it did not work out!

I did watch Silence of the Lambs within the past couple of years and I did like it!

Also I someday maybe need to see The Godfather.

There are some beautiful suits in there.

How many other screwballs have you seen? Some of my favorites (beyond the obvious) are Easy Living, Ball of Fire, The Miracle of Morgan's Creek, Libeled Lady, Midnight, My Favorite Wife, Love Crazy, The More the Merrier, and Vivacious Lady (which I believe David recommended to me).

I do like to pimp it! More the Merrier too.

Ann, that's a ferret.

It's hard to imagine screwball comedy without Cary Grant -- Holiday, Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story....

For lesser known screwball, I like to recommend It's Love I'm After, with Bette Davis, Olivia De Haviland, and Leslie Howard, plus a fine supporting turn by Eric Blore.
