Today is my dad's 77th birthday, so the kids and I called him around midday to give him good tidings. When he answered the phone he sounded groggy, which is odd cause he has never been one to sleep in or nap. We sang and gave him our good wishes. He thanked us and said his birthday was yesterday. Now I really thought one of us was loosing it. I KNOW today is Oct 28th. Then he casually mentions that they have been in New Zeeland the last two weeks and it is 6 in the morning there. Tomorrow.

!!!!! That's the kind of thing you tell people!
What Dana said. You definitely should not feel bad for calling at 6 am, because how were you supposed to KNOW?
OMG, that is incredible all the way around!
They will be headed to Australia and then Japan before returning home in a couple of weeks.
Not that I want a full itinerary, but let me know when you are leaving the country dad. Gives me a flashback to 9/11 and calling him to find out WHERE he was (LA, rented a car and drove a bunch of people back to SF).
Oh, dad of SuziQ. Happy birthday and all, but come on, you can't send "having a great time in New Zealand" texts or whatever?
I hate that. Ostensibly they do it to avoid speculation and gossip, but in my experience it just blows it out of proportion.
Usually the official notification is totally vague but there's word of mouth scuttlebutt, someone will have the inside scoop. This time no one seems to know anything.
Timelies all!
Raining here.
OMFG, I have too many activities coming up. Choir tomorrow, I want to go see Mallory Ortberg on Friday, a wedding Saturday, and church stuff all day Sunday, starting at 7:45 am.
Jesse is the opposite me. I have work and home. nails on Saturday. regular church on Sunday.
Oh Suzi, your dad! I mean don't get me wrong, I'm sitting here all "Go Papa Suzi!" but letting your kids know when you are leaving the country is the proper form.
Burrell, did you eat yet?
I was eating while I posted. A girl can only go so long, and that was too long.
