I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

the eighth logo down is particularly interesting.

Whoa. 1904, eh? I want to use this knowledge somehow. How, I don't know, but there must be a way.

That sucks, Sparky, but I am glad to know that vertigo and URI are, in fact, related. It makes sense to me but no doctor has actually spelled it out for me. I hope you get some relief soon.

OMG, shrift, thank you for that recipe! I can't tell you how much I need something like that in my life.

Spent all day yesterday with my parents, which was nice. Accidentally left my phone on their kitchen counter for most of it, which was not ideal but worked out okay(is why I am just catching up in here now).

Did the Martinez home Tour with mom (while dad worked to make sure the tour buses did their thing correctly, it's one of his longstanding volunteer gigs that he can't bring himself to give up quite yet (mostly because the woman who mostly runs the whole show would end up doing his job if he didn't, and she has too much on her plate already) although he is trying to retire from retirement and reduce his obligations) which was very good this year. Had an "alumni house" from a prior tour that was the one with a secret room accessed by a book case that swings out when you pull down a candlestick, so that was fun, and also a house owned by one of Joe DiMaggio's relatives where he and Marilyn famously stayed (Martinez's two claims to fame are being the birthplace of Joe DiMaggio and the Martini, and they milk both for all they are worth) . That house had the original stove (a Wedgewood, beautiful) and the docent told us that, yes, Marilyn cooked on it, she was known for her bouillabaisse. Who knew? Although apparently there is a faction of the Amici family that is in denial that Joe DiMaggio got divorced and remarried, or maybe that he visited the rest of the family in the sinful state, or something, I'm not sure, but whatever their denial was it really upset the researcher who documented all this. Which was drama I heard about second-hand so it was just kind of interesting to me as a weird little thing, like climate-change denial writ really really small. People are so weird. I also got some good ideas for earring display and pot rack creation.

After lunch, Mom and I headed to the beloved consignment store that has announced they will be closing in November so she could try and spend her gift certificate. I bought too much, but when I can't tell myself "maybe I'll get it next time" that's what happens. And I'm happy with all my purchases in every way except the hit to my credit card. The owner, who happened to be working the counter, said I won the day, so, that's something.

Then joining Dad for dinner after he was done wrapping up the transportation stuff, which was very pleasant indeed. He is all gung-ho for us to do another 5K, he loves getting those age group medals. And I have left over butternut squash ravioli and tiramisu, which is nice.

I should now be harvesting salsify, among other yard work, but I would so much rather keep sitting on the couch and maybe have another cup of coffee...

That's interesting, Burrell. It never occurred to me that that benefit might be a cause of the subtler forms of maintaining the status quo, but it's clearly an element in, for example, anti affirmative action arguments (i.e., more opportunity for people who aren't like me will mean less advantage for people like me and I might be the one to suffer for it). I'll have to think about that.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

And letting women have equal opportunity in a field doesn't just mean less opportunities for men, the pay scale tends to plummet too. So there's really a huge financial disincentive for men to be feminists.

That doesn't mean I think men aren't feminist. I know plenty of men who are, my husband and the folks here among them obviously. It's so interesting to me raising a son and watching him struggle with the dawning awareness of how systematic sexism, racism, etc work.

Yeah. I know that that is true but I don't understand why it happens so it's hard for me to take into account, but it bears consideration.

I dawdled too long and now it's time to watch football. Sorry, yard, maybe I'll get to you this afternoon?

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Just got back from the grocery store. Later we'll go out to meet Gary's mom for dinner.(We did dinner with Gary's dad and stepmom last night.)

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Football!

I'm home! Actually got to watch last week's Saints game on the ship, on the big outdoor screen on the pool deck. It was a very dramatic game, and actually pretty chilly with the wind going, but fun to be out with other fans when the Saints won in such dramatic fashion.

Today's game is not going quite so well.

Anyway! I swam with dolphins! I did this thing where you stick out your feet flat behind you and two dolphins push you with their noses and you rise up out of the water almost to vertical. It was crazy and surreal. We also got to spend a few minutes in a pen with manatees, who are hilariously chill and seem to do nothing other than float around and eat and possibly call each other "dude".

Anyway, laundry going, and apparently there's some fucking rule that I have to go back to work tomorrow.

The whole 'driving women from the field' is a frequent topic in the women in astro forums I follow, but then, of corse it would be there.

My floors are taking forever to dry. Still damp in spots and I finished almost an hr ago. It doesn't seem that humid. In fact, not humid at all.

How are all the grandparents enjoying the new grandbaby?

Wow, that is truly awesome Dana, in the original sense of the word.

I have scrubbed down the kitchen, now I need to go clean the bathroom too. Then mop. Then done.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That sounds incredible.

I am tuckered out! Too much fun this weekend, between dinner and karaoke Friday night, being out doing various things yesterday from 11am to 11pm, and just getting home from lunch out with my mother after going to church at 10. Now I need to plan out cooking, then grocery shop and cook, but I don't wanna. I guess I can plan, at least. Maybe I won't go to the office tomorrow after all. I can get some stuff done from here, I guess.
