"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

Huh. That's a new one.

I assume it hitched a ride on the flowers I bought at the farmer's market on Sunday, but I'm at a loss to explain how it find its way into the sink and onto the coffee pot which I used this morning. Adventure! Excelsior! Keep trucking, tiny snail.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Or pull out the garlic and butter, and preheat the oven....

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

but I'm at a loss to explain how it find its way into the sink and onto the coffee pot

It is, after all, a San Francisco snail. Needed its caffeine fix.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

San Francisco snails have their priorities straight.

I'm in a downstairs apartment, so solar tubes and skylights aren't an option now, but I'm definitely adding solar tubes to my "if I ever get a house" list.

In less fun news, I found out yesterday that a former coworker has been murdered. She was one of my favorite people at my previous job, straightforward and competent in an office notable for a large proportion of . . . otherwise. I'd kinda hoped to keep in touch with her after leaving, maybe build a non-work friendship, but I never got around to making that happen. And now her dickwad ex-boyfriend has killed her in what looks like a murder suicide. I want to punch every man with a trilby* and then retire to a lesbian separatist commune.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh my god, that's so terrible.

I did just google a page that says you could put the tube down through a closet or something, but probably not if you're renting!

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

Heather, I've said this elsewhere, but I am so sorry. That's so awful.

And it may not be lesbian separatist, be we already kind of live in a group of apartments that's 75% women, and feels commune-esque sometimes? (Though we do like our own spaces a whole lot!)

I always thought the commune part of the deal would be hard on introverts. So from my perspective we have the best of both.

Agreed!

Say, Steph, are you familiar with Belt Magazine? [link] It's about living in the rust belt, and it has material on three Ohio cities. While there's a bit on the challenges of living in the area, there's a lot on the reasons people stay. I'm enjoying the Detroit area stuff, myself.

Librarian Warlord

I adore Oliver Jeffers' work and I have a fairly embarrassing crush on Ben Hatke

Oliver Jeffers is not hard to look at. IJS. Ben Hatke won her over because he knew the origin of her name and what it meant. (https://www.facebook.com/takomaparklibrary/photos/pcb.1041468295884221/1041465932551124/?type=3&theater)

I suspect all these visits have something to do with the fact that Karen is on the Caldecott Committee this year.

I am never, ever going to catch up at work.
