I called Travelocity, they got my airfare converted into a credit, but they weren't able to contact the hotel, because the hotel doesn't answer their phone after 4 PM Pacific time. Um, what? You're a hospitality business. Your check-in time is at 4 PM. But not to worry, according to the website there's an automated check-in setup for after 4. Is there no one manning a desk? It seems a bit lackadaisical, but perhaps that's what should be expected for a small hotel on Venice Beach. Perhaps they're on the beach.

I just bought a floppy hat for the cruise. I have visions of me, sitting on my balcony, reading fanfic on my Kindle, wearing a floppy hat and watching dolphins cavort.
Not answering phones after 4PM would be a big red flag for me in a hotel—you may have dodged a bullet, Connie.
That is an excellent vision, Dana.
So they (my uncle and aunt) finally got my grandmother into assisted living, which seems like a great call all the way around. She'd been living with them, which was increasingly difficult, and my uncle ran the numbers and found they could afford to pay for like 15 years there or something. She's 88, so that probably won't happen....

This absolutely must happen! Also, good call on the floppy hat, because my scalp is peeling a bit from Too Much Sun and salt water.
Glad to hear that, Jesse, hope it works out well for everyone.
But I think yes Bay Area the week of the 19th, and maybe I'll take a little extra time so I can see people!
Ooh, I just saw this. I hope the extra time works out!
Especially if it includes weekend time!
In further fuck cancer news, my friends from college lost their daughter earlier this week. She fought a lifelong battle against a cancer so virulent that no one thought she’d live more than a few years. She made it to 17, weighing less than 90 lbs, but a fighter to the end.
I haven’t seen A. since she was 6 or 7 years old, but I’m so sad for the whole family. I’m glad she’s not in pain anymore, though. It was apparently really bad this past year.
So yes, fuck cancer, and much love and health~ma to Buffista family and friends who are battling it.
