OMG my coworker is shocked that she would need a passport to travel outside the country. How can she not know that?
Maybe she thinks this passport thing is for the rest of the world, and as an American she is so awesome she doesn't need one.

Travel to somewhere not Mexico or Canada? I mean, I know you need a passport for those, too, but you didn't used to!
She seemed genuinely surprised. I guess she's never gone anywhere, but still.

Kinda sounded like it, actually.
And, yes, she was especially shocked about Canada. "Even Canada? What if you took a Canadian cruise, you'd need a passport?" In a very that's-nuts tone of voice.
Common knowledge universal knowledge, I guess.
I've really got to get a passport, so I can take quickie trips to the Great White North.
I need to renew mine, I think it's about to expire. It makes me feel better to have it ready and waiting even though I go years and years without using it.
Oh, yeah, I have to check on mine, too. Which I thought of yesterday in a presentation about our new travel booking system -- I was reminded of the time my boss got stuck in Amsterdam, unable to get on her connecting flight because her passport had less than six months left on it! It was a perfectly valid passport! And a one-week trip!
Passports are great. They're useful id and they're reminders of where you've been. I have no firm travel plans, but I'm just happy knowing it's handy. So many possibilities!
Ah, I have to renew mine. It expired 15 Sep. My Italian one is still good through 2017, though that won't help me when I need to come home.
Kat, I'm sorry that it's a struggle. I hope viable solutions present themselves soon, and the right hand starts to know what the left hand is doing.
Juliebird, I'm sorry that people have no tact. I don't see why you should hold your tongue anymore.

Well, to be fair, needing a passport for Canada is relatively new.
