And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

what does right-clicking translate to in Mac?

The first thing I do on ANY Mac I find myself sitting at is to set up right-clicking and two-finger tapping in Settings. It drives me nuts that this functionality isn't enabled by default - why on earth would anyone NOT want the option to bring up contextual menus?

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

If they're my mother and keep accidentally right-clicking on everything. (She programmed computers that went to the moon. She can't figure out a Mac.)

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I'm not sure I can handle the extra negativity in my life, but I am now following Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy on Twitter.

OMGWTFPOLARBEAR

I just had a phone call with a DC headhunter, I thought to ask me some questions about my opinions on what the national professional organization for classics should do in terms of becoming more forward-thinking about technology, social media, and outreach, as they look to hire a new executive director (the outgoing one is retiring next year). But instead he suggested I consider exploring my candidacy for the position.

I am flattered, but not really sure this is either something I want to do or something I would be any good at. I have a week to think about it; we've scheduled a call for next week.

WHOA.

Wow, flea! Would it mean moving to DC?

Hi, Cindy!

*waves* Hi, everyone. I'm here and reading along, just rarely able to post much of substance. Luckily, Jane seems to be getting better at taking naps in the Rock&Play (as opposed to in someone's arms, her preferred option, which is sweet but not conducive to me getting much rest, let alone getting anything else done).

The current office is based at UPenn, but they are open to developing an affiliation with another university. Conveniently, I know of one locally, and I know the faculty member who was the president of the board of the professional organization last year.

I knew I had something on my calendar today - our managing director is telling us his 5-year plan in a couple of hours. I am actually interested to hear that, but it is another hour+ of not getting my actual work done...

5-year plan sounds Soviet to me. That would certainly be a major change of direction.

One of the top five terrifying things to see on the freeway on your morning commute:

Smoke pouring out of the wheels of the double-trailer dumptruck six car lengths in front of you as he stands on the brakes to avoid rear-ending the flatbed hauling a backhoe in front of him because of coming over a hill to find stopped traffic because of a wreck three miles further up the freeway. Dumptruck driver did not crash, but he had to do some maneuvering not to hit the flatbed or any of the small cars who thought crowding a big-ass heavy vehicle in a crisis was a good thing.
