"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

The really freaky part was that my sense of smell went off then on like switching a light switch. I have a friend who lost her sense of smell to sinus surgery. She is also quite flaky, which has led to any amount of burned clothes (She's a last-minute ironer.) and food flambe. It's quite miraculous that she's managed to live more than 70 years.

It really brought home how much I depend on my sense of smell, particularly to judge if food is still good. I started to obsess about food poisoning and fire.

I am so glad it came back, though! I worked with a woman who had a brain tumor removed, and it left her without a sense of smell, and she found she could barely eat because nothing had any flavor!

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Just no longer the kind of itchy that makes me afraid I will accidentally scratch until I reach my brain.

Oh, Sophia. That tells me we read the same article. That disturbed me so deeply, I'll never forget it.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I immediately assumed a missing H

You are correct!

I'm glad your brain is safe, Sophia, but I'm sorry you're still itchy. Do you have any clue at all as to what sets it off?

I also read about the brain thing. I had periods of obsessing about that last year when the chemo I was taking caused boils on my head.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Great. Now I'm scratching my head.

VERY CAREFULLY.

It might be eczema, or the current working theory is sort of an allergy overload-- so that it doesn't really matter what it is, if I get over a certain threshold of allergy (seasonal, dust, whatever) my skin starts to rebel? But who knows-- no health professional seems really helpful and I don't seem to have the energy to go from person to person convincing them that this is not because I am fat! My eyelid

It sounds like you're allergic to bad doctors. Have you gotten that response from an allergist?

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

My former roommate lost both taste and smell in a car wreck. We had to watch him like a hawk, because he was always doing things like drinking spoiled milk. He also once had a family of "cats" living under his porch. Black and white stripey cats....

I have an appointment, but haven't seen one-- this is mostly the dermatologist. My PCP is just like WTF!?!?! and told me to try Allegra!
