Natter 74: Ready or Not

The Mid-Atlantic team in the Little League World Series is my hometown team. They are currently beating the Midwest team from Missouri 18-0 in the bottom of the 3rd. The game is on ESPN. This is a special team with some serious mojo going on.
Glad you were able to find a good alternative, sara.
I'm with -t on salad recipe, mine is basically my (former) potato salad without the potatoes*, also my egg salad, with tuna, chicken, diced or shredded cooked ham. I have used leftover turkey white meat, it's not as successful. The important ingredient in all, though, is coarsely chopped hard-cooked egg, with green and or black olives, and/or chopped dill pickles, or chopped sweet pickle, mayo, mustard, onion* and garlic powder, black pepper, horseradish to taste, if desired, and paprika on the top for color.
My boss' near-hysterical younger sister was amazed to learn my emergency shrimp salad recipe: equal amounts canned shrimp and drained cooked small pasta shells, add cocktail sauce, toss, serve.
*I can't eat potatoes or onion solids
Hmm, ham salad, hadn't thought of that. I could put grated cheese in that. I do love me some ham.
I love egg salad, but I hate the prep. Yes, boiling water annoys me. First World problem for the win.
In other news, I found the missing mouse for my desktop computer!
Yay! Consuela, congrats!
Burrell, while I can't imagine it should matter, schools where tracking occurs it most often occurs because of math. Now, I don't have an issue with tracking, but, it's better for her to have a firm grasp on middle school math and one that was rushed through or incompletely taught.
In other news, my AP Lit class now has a enrollment of 46 kids. I have seats for 40. I keep agreeing to take more kids because if a student wants to take AP, they should get that opportunity, but it does increase my usual challenge.
That's an awful lot of students. Do you mean you don't have actual chairs for them all? That sounds like a problem.
Hooray mouse!
Not mousse. Although I am pro-mousse in a general way it is not what I meant to say.
Connie, you might want to keep in mind that it is no trouble to hard boil 6 eggs (or 12) than 1, and you can freeze egg salad for later, if you dice the eggs pretty fine (bigger chunks will get rubbery but with smaller pieces that doesn't bother me).
I was just thinking ham salad would make a good addition to my repertoire, Bev. My basic recipe is stupid simple, though - mayonnaise, mustard, celery and/or whatever crunchy veggie I have lying around and is appealing to me, whatever protein, the end. I successfully used my egg salad prep (without any celery, etc., because crunchy stuff was not appealing at all) to do deviled eggs the other day and I did wish I had paprika to sprinkle on top (I assembled the deviled eggs at my desk, at home I would have paprika) but otherwise totally a win.

You can also buy eggs that are already hard-boiled and peeled. Well, I know Trader Joe's has them, but I'd bet that other large chain groceries have them, too. Then all you do is dice and mix.
That is true. I've seen 'em at Raleys.
Connie, the worry with canned tuna is the mercury. I think the rec is once a week.
Hm. Maybe I should eat less tuna, then. I love tuna like a cat. Maybe I should give the cats less tuna too. How much tuna should one feed a cat? I hadn't even thought about the mercury. All the mercury warnings I've seen have been aimed at pregnant women, so I've kinda ignored them.
crunchy stuff was not appealing at all
I hate celery. And it's in everything, every meat-type salad, it's fibrous and bitter and I hate biting into it. Why does everything have to crunch? Meat and mayo isn't supposed to crunch! What's so appealing about making things that don't crunch crunchy? Fucking celery. I'm gonna be forced to learn to cook just so I can make food that doesn't have celery in it. Celery is a ridiculous vegetable with barely any nutrition or calories in it. Did you know that the variety of celery used in Europe is different than the one grown in America, and in Europe they eat the root but not the stalks (because they're gross, why would you eat that). BTW, celery seed is an effective diuretic, if you're looking for a natural alternative, so it does have a reason for existing, just not for food unless you're literally starving and will eat anything, but honestly wild cattail roots probably taste better.
tl;dr: I really hate celery.
