Natter 74: Ready or Not
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Ginger, it sounds like your former friend is a drama llama who likes to shove emotional labor onto other people.
He is all of that, yet he complains about other people's drama. I live in fear that during one of these weird fits he'll call my mother.
Steph, do you know any of the other freelancers well enough to compare notes?

Drama llamas always do that! Only their drama is legitimately dramatic.
I don't know what you are supposed to do with that kind of feedback, Tep. It's like having an alcoholic parent for a boss. Not good.
Steph, do you know any of the other freelancers well enough to compare notes?
Not terribly well, but I suppose I could send a vague-ish email asking how long it took for them to stop getting the long-ass ENGLISH, DO YOU SPEAK IT type of feedback. (Not in so many words. Obviously.)
I get to have a meeting tomorrow with my coworker, who is still peer-reviewing everything I write, 14 months after I was hired. I am generally blase about this, but at the moment, I am failing to be blase.
Oh, and a "career conversation" with my manager on Friday. Since there is pretty much no place for me to be promoted, I don't know what we'd discuss.
Steph, my boss is like that, with the inconsistent and often self-contradictory instructions. The first few months I worked with her, I thought I was losing my mind, until I got to know my co-workers well enough to have a frank "no, she's actually nuts; it's not you" conversation. I strongly suspect it ain't you. Document everything, girl.
In a tangentially related question, can anyone tell me if it might be worth it for me to take a week-long course that would get me a Certificate in Association Management?
I strongly suspect it ain't you. Document everything, girl.
I save all my emails, not just the kudos emails, but also the ENGLISH, DO YOU SPEAK IT emails, so that when she tells me I should have changed XYZ to ABC, I can pull out the old email and tell her the date that she told me we always keep XYZ. Not that it helps.
I had a call with one of my contracts folks to talk about something I've been asking her to do for over a year. Past conversations/e-mails have made no progress, but I finally contact her boss and, ta-da, she now understands what I want and will have it done by the end of the week. I am not optimistic, but we will see.
The skies are starting to brighten up after another storm with tons of thunder roared through.
My level of no-coping today has me still in my pj's and no bra. I'm almost done for the day and my bed is calling me.
Do you want to manage associations, Zen? Or do you already?
Just got a deadline of this Friday for a thing that we can't start until further notice. I'll be out at least part of Friday with my periodontist follow up, and all of Operations will be out at least half of Thursday. This will be a fun week.
ETA: Friday deadline was a guess, next Tuesday is actual deadline. Which is better but still oppressing me.
Also, this is more testing and my scheduled day to devote to testing is the day after the deadline.
Probably chocolate will help.
Not terribly well, but I suppose I could send a vague-ish email asking how long it took for them to stop getting the long-ass ENGLISH, DO YOU SPEAK IT type of feedback.
Maybe you could compare notes on the use of the style sheet, along the lines of "Do you have any sense of when she thinks it's okay to deviate from the style sheet?"
Well, that was a clusterfuck. Not only is Towson the only Y pool open within accessible distance, they also scheduled swim team tryouts. I bailed when the 6th person tried to circle swim and there were 6 in the other lane. I can barely manage 3 circling. When I pointed out that all other city Ys were closed and maybe they could plan better, they were SHOCKED to learn all other Ys were closed.
It used to be they cancelled all program activities during the cleaning cycle. FOR A REASON.
I at least got in 1.25 miles, but I'm pissy and not sure what I'm going to do the rest of the week. Maybe try city pools?
