Jayne: Captain, can you stop her from bein' cheerful, please? Mal: I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

I was going to volunteer in some way, but I need that vacation day, due to the move.

I am still really inclined to respond with "You're the puppet!" every time someone irks me.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I'm more worried about what his base does. Like, to the point that I'm going to the gun range this weekend. They have been using violent rhetoric and imagery, they have been using apocalyptic rhetoric and imagery, he's primed them to believe in conspiracies, and they aren't good with facts. And violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

Raq, I'm signed up to be in DC during inauguration to work a program with HS students. The friends I do this with and I were texting and I said, quite seriously, "Well, if there is an armed insurrection, then they will most likely cancel the program so I won't have to be there after all." And it wasn't in jest.

Random -- I asked people about their voting plans because I'm nosy, but then NPR did this whole thing about how people with plans, who articulate them publicly, are more likely to follow through.

I've told the story here before of my little home town which, because it has two liberal arts colleges and not much else, never seems to be able to muster the required number of Republican poll workers. By congenial small town tradition, a few Democratic poll workers each year agree to be "Republicans for a day" under the supervision of the real Republicans.

This has worked well enough, although after he turned 90 my father declared that he would no longer work the polls because "I'm not going to spend one of my few remaining days as a Republican."

This year, though, there is concern of a wider rebellion. No one really wants to be assigned to watch out for Trump's interests, including some of the Republicans. The search for poll workers has been intense.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Epic, if you don't mind, how long did it take you to recover? I'm seeing estimates of at least 4 weeks (for endoscopic surgery), and that's reaaaalllly badly timed, with me just starting remote work.

You kinda can't go by me, because I got laid off right before the surgery, so the Doctor and I sort of (unspoken) colluded to give me the max disability available, since I didn't have an employer who was anxious for my return. My mother was back to work 2 weeks after her surgery. And both of us were done back in the pre-endoscopic days. I'd assume you'll be okay in less than 4 weeks, but do your PT and listen to your doctor (and to your body).

a coworker just asked me if I wore ombre on purpose.

Hah! That's awesome.

I am completely unmotivated, have a work project that is totally pear-shaped (big deadlines was supposed to be next Thursday, but a bunch of things that need to happen before then have not happened, so..I'm doing everything I can but it's not enough? Because I can't reach through the internet and make doctors do things?), and overwhelmed (by work, and by non-work stuff that I ALSO don't have the energy to do, like laundry and working out, and figuring out how to eat healthier because I've gained back half the weight I lost and none of my clothes fit me, and and and). And I got a flu shot yesterday and today I am all achy and unhappy. Which, yay immune system working, but ugh.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

I've never owned a gun and never felt the need, but the rhetoric from some of Trump's supporters are making me start to question that.

Anybody else use My Fitness Pal? I started using it to track my eating and exercise (once my knee heals up).

Yes. I managed to lose 45 pounds last year just using it to track what I was eating. (I have unfortunately gained it all back due to a myriad of reasons) I found it incredibly helpful. If I ever get things back in order I plan to use it again.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I am GETTING SHIT DONE! at work.

Went to therapy. I am supposed to "do more things for me." Ugh I don't even know. Shopping mindlessly apparently does not count. I already started the gym this year, sheesh. Social is too much work.

Our wings are not tired.

I am supposed to "do more things for me."

Florida vacation! Okay, that might be for me, but still.

Hello all. I have somehow managed to be super busy all day and still not get anything done.
