Shrift, sorry I didn't see your DSL cable woes earlier. I'm pretty sure I have a couple of those stashed here somewhere.

I hope your sister is ok, zen. Sisters are important!
I picked up a half-case of wine at BevMo tonight for my sister, because I've been here for 3 weeks and I'm eating a lot of their food and drinking a lot of their wine and hitching rides to work with my BIL and I'm sure they're getting tired of me. And five minutes after I got home with my bag o wine, my sister walked in--with six bottles of wine.
... we might possibly spend too much time together.
ION, I made a very tasty dish tonight! Cucumbers with avocado and grilled shrimp. Chop up three cukes and an avocado and an orange. Throw another avocado in the blender with some orange juice. Grill the shrimp (or buy it cooked). Combine everything with some olive oil, salt & pepper. NOM. Thank you, Mark Bittman!

I love this story.

Aurelia, thanks for the thought! I've spent the entire evening preparing for the move and transferring files to backup drives, so I didn't even miss the internet tonight.
In other news, I've been having one of the moving cross-country mental breakdowns I've been told to expect, which is why I'm not asleep yet. I expect I'll have another one tomorrow. But once it's done, Dana can ply me with alcohol and everything will be fine.
Quick breakdown recovery, shrift.
And all good thoughts to your sister--and to you, Zen.

Health-ma for your sister, Zen.
Hang in there Shrift.
I woke up in the middle of the night because of another thunderstorm. I went in my spare room to have a look outside, and the rain was blowing straight in the open window. The covers on my bed, FOUR FEET from the window were wet. Fortunately, it hadn't been sitting for long, so I just dried up everything with a towel. But that is crazy rain.
I woke up realizing I'd forgotten a critical step in a project yesterday. Which means I get to redo everything I did yesterday. I love starting the day sending around mea culpas.
But once it's done, Dana can ply me with alcohol and everything will be fine.
It will all be fine. Unpacking is a lot more fun than packing, and you're very well prepared, and there is no minor disaster that can't be fixed.
