I'ma stab this author, so you all need to provide an alibi. Thanks in advance.

(I am amazed at how many authors think that "editing" means "runs spellcheck and maybe changes minor things like changing numbers that are spelled out into numerals [i.e., "ten" to "10"] but otherwise leaving my precious baby words exactly as they came forth from my pen.")

(Again, to be clear about my rant, sometimes when we edit we do change the intended meaning, and obviously we want to know about that so we can change it back. I know my rants sound like I am the ultimate arbiter of people's words, and that's not true. We want the intended meaning to be clear, above all. But we also have a style that we adhere to, and everyone gets edited. Including Barack Obama. Who I'm SURE didn't throw a hissy fit about being edited.)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That's exciting!! [Edit: flea. Steph's situation is exciting in the bad way.]

When I am in charge of the style guide, numbers ten and under will be written out! I just resisted changing that in someone else's work because I am not in charge of the style guide.

I was used to that, but the AMA likes everything to be numerals (unless it's "one" used in the general sense, like "This is one of the reasons people's heads explode"). Having everything be numerals does make editing faster and cleaner.

Also I understand the concept of a house style, and if the Very Prestigious Publication wants to do it that way, you can do it that way.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced these authors have been published in other journals that don't edit the papers at all, so they think that's the way all medical publishing it. But we edit with no mercy. And that's probably shocking to see if you've had other journals publish your stuff without changing so much as a comma.

But the fact still remains that they are told that they WILL be edited. So it's not like this is a surprise. Or it shouldn't be.

Paging Theodosia , is it possible to use Uber as a customer if you don't have a smartphone to run the app on? (i.e., strictly using a laptop for the account?)

Paging Steph's medicinal brain. Apparently insurance is pushing back against the generic Adderall my doc prescribed. Is there another drug they would want me to try first (I've had that happen before) but I thought with this being the generic, it wouldn't be as big of an issue. So far I haven't gotten an answer from the pharmacy, insurance, or doctors office on where it stands.

Those situations are so frustrating, because you just know Person A has received the question, but Person A has to find Person B to get the answer, and Person B just went to lunch, and when B gets back s/he will need to touch base with Person C, who probably left early, and in any case there are three other questions ahead of it that need to consult with the rest of the alphabet.
