That's wild that there is no driver's ed around. I took driver's ed and "learned to drive" an automatic, but then once I had my license, the only cars I had access to were manuals, so I still had to go to a parking lot with my father. (And if it had been just my mother, I would never have learned to drive either.)

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
hahaha take the rental car back with a destroyed transmission and both bumpers dented, "no idea what happened! good thing we got the no-questions'asked insurance!"
I was in a rural area, but my school had driver's ed. I also drove with friends, but I pretty much just learned to drive enough to pass the test, and then learned more after by just driving more.
My mom tried to teach me once, and it was not a good thing.
How far away is the closest driving school? That may end up being the best bet, if there's no one else in her life with an automatic.
The only driver's ed school is on the other side of the city, and the course is spread out over the whole month, and it's just not accessible because her mom has to work.
And Ginger. I'd sure love her perspective during this election.
I keep wanting to jump up and down with her about Georgia leaning Blue this election.
how do people date?
If you figure it out, let me know.
SERIOUSLY
"If people won't take care of their neighbors out of altruism, it's not the government's job to do it."
Former Republican (Mormon) co-worker of mine would say this, except "church & the community". Which I found (still find) ridiculously blindered, or childish, or something. It's all well and good to say that people should take care of each other (and the community), BUT THEY DON'T! And in the meanwhile, children still need to be educated, people need to not die from preventable disease, fires need to be put out, and roads need to be paved (ETC.) So frustrating.
I thought the government's job is to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. But what do I know, it's not like it's written down someplace.

Wish I could help, Zen, but I went to Driving School, and when I still wasn't road-safe at the end of it, my dad took over. Craigslist?
FWIW, Zen, I learned to drive on a manual transmission. It was harder, but my dad's logic was, since you're learning anyway, learn it all at once, rather than learning to drive, being freaked out, getting over it, then having to freak out all over again learning stick.
She needs a driver's ed course but there's none around.
Is there only the one high school (the one she attends, which doesn't offer driver's ed)? Because if there's another high school that DOES offer driver's ed, maybe some kind of deal could be worked out for her to take it there?

It might be too late in the year for driver ed, but I just remembered that my school (which held summer school for the county) did all the driver ed for the whole county too!. So maybe there is something like that (although you would think the school would have told her) .
