Dinner break. Sacrifice to me is more personal than working hard or financial stuff. Sacrificing a lucrative career to be in public service qualifies in my mind. Nothing Trump has done counts. Losing your child serving his country absolutely is sacrifice.

I absolutely agree about the last part, Laura. I understand what you mean about the lucrative career vis a vis public service, but since none of (as far as I know) those people end up on welfare, while I'm willing to admire their service (which I think is another, separate thing) in my own head, it doesn't qualify as sacrifice (usually, that is, I'm sure you could provide me cases to which I'd say, "Yep, sacrifice.")

Look at my pretty Teppy, giving me pity. It's okay, Steph, I know when I'm guilty of board-killage. Anyhow, Buffistas, I think about you all the time, but I'm largely trying to live an off-line life, these days, for other reasons. I hope you're all well. You are always in my thoughts.

When I mentioned the long work hours and stressy responsibilities, I meant more that they were sacrificing things like quality time with their families and the ability to leave work cares behind on weekends and vacations, not that doing hard work in and of itself was a sacrifice. Someone who gives up the chance to see all their kids' recitals or Little League games for meetings with lobbyists is never going to get those back, y'know.

I was eating dinner, and buying tickets to see "Come From Away" when I'm next in DC. I enjoyed it a lot here in Seattle, but missed the first 20 minutes because my friend who got the tickets got the time wrong! So am excited to see it (it's about Gander Newfoundland on 9/11)

I think in this case the conversation is focused on sacrifice specifically for the greater good -- at least that's where I would put the Khans, and their son. He risked (and lost) his life for the greater good, they lost their son for the greater good. (Greater good being, of course, always open to interpretation, I guess.)

Trump hasn't sacrificed anything for a cause other than his own gain, in my opinion.

fingers crossed for no crazy dreams tonight. have had them for 2 nights in a row and while not upsetting, they were both anxiety filled so I wake up still tired.
