Yeah... and I think it is part of the NRA's long term strategy.

The well-meaning but clueless do honestly think that people should take comfort from seeing clearly-armed people who are going to "protect" them. They think their well-meaningness emanates from them like a halo, they don't understand that the mere presence of a gun upsets people. It's like people getting panicky when they see me using a sharp carving knife in the kitchen, really, I've had people gasp and shrink back and say "Oh, gosh, be careful, it's sharp and could hurt you!"
(I am not advocating for people to wander around in public flaunting their phallic pistols, it annoys the hell out of me to see them in restaurants around here. And people have every right to not want to have them around a Pride parade. Perhaps someone with a pet alligator should bring it to a day care center to show how friendly they are.)
I have yet to see someone open-carrying here in Texas, thank god.
Tickets for Hamilton in Chicago go on sale on Tuesday. I'm pondering going.
I looked at the Facebook page for the open-carry Pride thing. There are a lot of people posting stuff about how they don't care if "the gays" don't want them to open-carry at Pride, because gay people have no right to complain about not liking what other people do, since they "force their lifestyle on us" all the time. Yeah, that's really going to make people feel safe.
How about the actual gay people stay off the parade route and drive a convoy of backfiring cars down neighboring streets?
Every marcher in the parade should carry signs that say "we don't need guns to compensate". Or they could open carry tgemselves.
I hold firm that if a lot of people of color and women and LGBTQ people started open carrying outside general sporting events or like straight strip clubs or other places dominated by cis straight white men, open carry would be banned everywhere.
The problem is that when people of color open carry even toy guns, they get shot by cops.
Well sure with your logic and stuff, but maybe not at a parade while you know, in the parade.
