Also, you can tell it's not gonna have a happy ending when the main guy's all bumpy.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Holy crap, that is stunning.

One of my team members had never heard of Hamilton when I mentioned it yesterday. Do I need to fire her?

Sophia Brooks - Jun 15, 2016 2:26:55 am PDT #23076 of 30003
Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Yes, you do need to fire her. It is unacceptable.

I have a sort of rant this morning, and it probably isn't going to sound like a rant, because I am not a generally vitriolic person, but this Orlando/gun control thing is driving me NUTS. The voting discussion here has taught me that I am good at explaining different points of view, and trying to build consensus, but I am SO SICK of my WHOLE LIFE, these people who think and say they are rational and logical acting like I (and other people) am stupid and irrational for holding a view they do not WHILE they are being irrational.

1. People have emotions and feelings, so it is actually rational to take those into account when you are forming your views

2. ARMING YOURSELF with high power weapons to protect yourself against a possible tyrannical government IS NOT RATIONAL. Neither is thinking that a random non-trained person with a gun can reasonably defent themselves/their family against crime. This isn't the Wild Wild West nor do we have an actual war on our land going on.

3. Not knowing the exact definition of an assault rifle is not a reason for an argument being invalid. It reminds me of my friend who is like "No, I don't have any KLEENEX, but I do have FACIAL TISSUE".

4. If you use rational thought to come to a conclusion based on facts, and the facts are manipulated, then the conclusion is wrong! And facts can be manipulated-- you can pretty much make a rational argument for anything using facts- or at least something that sounds and feels rational. But if deep down, you believe the government of our country is out to get you (while at the same time being somehow super patriotic)-- I can't get past that, because that belief seems irrational.

5. But I guess if you are a white, cis-gendered, straight man in America, and equality feels like losing, I guess it does feel like the government is out to get you.

6. But don't tell me YOU are the rational one, and I am a silly emotional girl.

And I didn't even really get into it that much-- this is just from watching other people argue- but I have some trauma around arguing with people who are so sure that they are rational (mostly men and Myers-Briggs NTs), that argue with you until you get emotional, and then say-- we were just having a discussion!

Our wings are not tired.

Oh Sophia, I understand. I have been pounced on by relatives because I don't know one type of mass killing weapon from another. I've ended up just vigorously defending the positions of the like minded against their friends/family and completely ignoring the crazies when they post absurdity. Of course I have blocked so many sources I am spared seeing a lot of stuff. In person I just turn topics to more pleasant topics as much as possible.

I cannot stop sneezing this morning. Unsurprising, but still annoying.

Left the cats unattended for maybe 10 minutes at Anna's while I set up stuff in the house and came in to a super needy Pumpkin. Not sure what freaked her.

Anna must've wound her grandfather clock because it just tolled and both cats ran to stare...

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Not knowing the exact definition of an assault rifle is not a reason for an argument being invalid. It reminds me of my friend who is like "No, I don't have any KLEENEX, but I do have FACIAL TISSUE".

This is driving me batshit CRAZY. I've seen it all over my friends' FB posts, and I cannot believe how much bullshit they're willing to take from their friends/family. Because if anyone tried that on me, they would be booted and unfriended after about 2 syllables.

That said, if someone posts a pro-gun, I-am-smug-and-superior-because-I-am-rules-lawyering-the-definition-of-"assault rifle" post on their OWN page (my wingnut aunt, one of Tim's nephews [who, oh my god, is REALLY misogynist and posts stuff calling women "cunts" and then posts things wondering why he's single (uh, DUH, dude)]) -- well, they can post what they want, and I am not going to jump onto their own post and yell at them. I just click "Hide" really fast.

And I appreciate that my Libertarian brother (and Tim's nephew) have not come on my posts with gun nut shit, because it wouldn't be pretty. The only person who tried was my wingnut aunt, and she did acquiesce when I said I didn't want to discuss the idea that we should all have guns to protect ourselves against the inevitable takeover of the government. (What if they force a good quality of life on us??? You take your healthcare and go!!!!!)

Anyway, yeah. I've been hiding a lot of posts over the past couple of days, because I have zero patience left. If someone's only defense is smug rules-lawyering of the definition of "assault rifle", they can fuck right off.

ION, my headache seems to be 90% gone. I am keeping the drapes shut just in case, but the lights are all on and I don't want to stab my face, so that seems like definite improvement. And I am super far behind work-wise, but the freelance manager is understanding and I think I need to send her a golden unicorn or something to thank her.

Naw, that's a great rant, Sophia.

information libertarian

This is not a guns rant, it is not even a rant, but it is also not appropriate for my Facebook:

Man, grey pubic hair is somehow really depressing.

Sophia Brooks - Jun 15, 2016 3:57:48 am PDT #23082 of 30003

That does sound depressing. I am lucky in that my family either seems to get grey hair at 25 or at 65/70. SInce I am 42, I think I will have 20 more years of brown hair.
