Woot to both Sue and Suzi for life plans coming together!
Rebecca, that is very cute. I might be tempted to get it myself! Good thing we are unlikely to be caught both wearing it at the same time.

Sue! Awesome!
I've got over 50L of beverage in my car. Retirement party tomorrow. I'm in denial.
Looks like I'll get my new ceiling and walls patched this month. Fuck, I haven't stripped the baseboards or gotten paint.
I bought the dress and a red pair of Jack Purcell's.
Today has been an overwhelming day. First, UCLA stuff. Since I'm listed as adjunct faculty, I get Bruin Alerts. When they started coming, it was bad. And my student teachers were trying to figure out what to do because they had presentations on campus today. Then I remembered that one of my 11th grade students takes a math class on campus, in Boelter which is attached to Engineering 4 at 9:00ish. We were trying to figure out where he was.
Later, the police had to be called to our campus because one of our 6-year-old first graders bit the assistant principal. How bad does your life have to go to be 6 and to feel like the only way to work/control a situation is to bite a grown up.
Then K's mom fell and tore open a somewhat healed incision on her knee that had to be replaced. She was taken to the hospital to close a 1 inch by 8 inch wound. We cannot for the life of us figure out child care for the next 2 weeks so that K can go to Louisiana to help her.
I need a drink.
Life plans are awesome, go team life plans!
In light of which, I have produced my first successful at-home Manhattan. I had to replace the maraschino liqueur with raspberry liqueur, but it seemed to work fine. ... this could be a problem.
I also found a dog-sitter for my trip to family camp in July, yay!
After work I went to BevMo and bought Dad a case of different beers. He likes his beer in the afternoon, even though he only drinks about 3 ounces of it. It was nice to see him, but he mostly just slept while I was there. If you have to have dementia, the way he's got it isn't too bad. He sleeps, he watches tv, he goes on outings, he eats, he drinks a little beer.
YAY dog sitter. We are trying a dogvacay person. Meep.
Ugh Kat, poor K's mom. Let me know if I can help
Can I say DH was so very blase about the UCLA shooting? He was said he was trying to ignore it so he could work.

Honestly, it is great that you can frame his dementia that way, especially since you can't make it go away. But I do know that you had to take a long road to get to this point.
And back to Kat's post, what is the purpose of calling the police on a 6 year old? I can see calling the parents, but what are the police going to do? It's been a rough school year now that I think of it. I didn't mention either event at the time, but one of Isaac's poor classmates had a massive meltdown and attacked both several teachers and students (Isaac suspects she was bullied), and one of Franny's classmates died after going into cardiac arrest at school. Truly tragic, I think I didn't mention them because they both seemed so unreal and awful and yet they didn't directly involve us. Frances didn't really know the boy, but she had friends and especially teachers who were very sad. All of which is to say, in a very mememe way, there's clearly too much strain on kids these days.
Kat, I have a friend who runs a pet sitting business, if you need a dog sitter rec
Oh crud, I just found out the victim in the UCLA shooting was a young professor
Cute dress.
Good luck with the time allocation, shrift, that sounds like a good move.
Oh, Kat, what a hard day! I wish I could help with the logistics, somehow.
And that is a lot, Burrell. Those both do sound unreal and awful.
I have heard very little actual facts about the UCLA deaths. I suppose I should look into it. Maybe tomorrow, I can't imagine that would be restful research to do.
Excellent Tai Chi class tonight: the Four Corners and Lead the Horse to the Stable. Couple more classes and we'll have covered the whole form.
