((Strix)) that sounds agonizingly difficult.

Natter 74: Ready or Not

So, I should have made some actual plans with some actual people this weekend. Sometimes I feel like my mother uses up all of my social energy, but with her out of town, now I have extra! Ah well.
I have gotten some good stuff done, at least. Just brought two bags to the Goodwill and picked up three books and a pair of pants for my father. I love Goodwill for things that are non-urgent - I just go in every week or so and see if they have what I want. On the current list: raincoat, dad pants. I have odd requirements for both.
Garage Sale day 1 is done. Last person who came as I was packing things back into garage bought the most stuff.
mostly big stuff sold which makes me so happy.
2 end tables
1 desk chair
reindeer yard decoration
2 boxes of candy cane yard decorations
18 skeins of yarn
11 ceramic tiles
a bike
then like 4 little things.
Not bad for last minute and only 2 signs and a craigslist ad. Fingers crossed some people will come early tomorrow and clear out enough to really make a dent in the garage, regardless there will be loads going to thrift stores next week.
I made a pitcher of sun tea while out and read fic, so I even feel like it was a semi normal weekend day. AND I manages to get in 5000 steps basically in my driveway.
Now I have showered and have my feet up. I believe some media consumption is in my future.
It is very depressing how many cubic feet of stuff I pull out of this house and how little difference it seems to make. But there are differences: I can get to corners of the house I couldn't get to before, I can see what's under other stuff, but damn, so much left to do.
A successful day, msbelle!
We are at an age with mac that toys do not get replaced with other toys so that is a help. On my end, I used to have 4-5 bags of clothes to store of out of season clothes, now I have 2. But it goes in waves. It's like I cannot see the next round of things I do not need and should get rid of until this other stuff is out of the way. And then I wonder how I how all the previous stuff in my house at one point.
Having plenty of storage space and no car means there's no point in looking at my stuff holistically. I spent 20 minutes going through two drawers and had a bag of clothes to go. That plus a bag of books I had pulled out a while ago, and that's all I can carry! There is probably plenty of stuff to get rid of in the closets. Maybe I'll do some tomorrow.
And the lid of the garbage bin can no longer be closed. I wish dumpster rental wasn't so expensive. It's not big stuff I can have people come over and haul away, it's small stuff that needs to be containerized--and sorted into recycle, garbage, donate. My standards for garbage have sunk very far, but it still all has to be physically managed. Oh, beloved, you and your "but it could be useful/isn't it cool?" habits in thrift stores.
My current push to clear out more is two-fold. 1) potentially a second car in a year. 2) probably live in 1/3 to 1/2 the space in 3-4 years.

Oh my Jesus I cannot tell you the metric shit ton of crap we moved out of my dad's house this weekend. we made like 5 or 6 trips to goodwill, filled most of a 10x20 storage unit and then gave up and started piling it by the curb. Some of which went away (6 nice dining room chairs, a few desks and things) and the rest is piled up in Mt. Garbage and will be for a while because the village only does special pickups in Thursdays. So, enjoy that, neighbors, especially nice lady next door who's trying to sell her house. We did cover the worst of it with a tarp and taped notes to it explaining.
