At least it's been a long time since I had anyone try "Oh, I'm just a woman, I don't know these things." Really. Probably about 15 years ago. I said, very flatly, "I'm a woman," which more people didn't realize back then. She said "Oh" very quietly and stopped trying to justify why she didn't know what was going on.
Yipes -t, I hope you get the all clear soon. I remember when there was a big fire in Irvine when I lived there and we had to watch the approaching fire line and decide if we wanted to stay put or head out. Ultimately we decided to go up to my folks house for the night just to get a good night's sleep.

I started to get disgusted by suspicious little black dots all over my new ceramic pan until I recalled that I heated up some everything bagels in it Sunday.
Ack, a friend just messaged me about talking to a friend of hers who was offered a position. In which I was on the hiring committee. So, yeah, no, though I'd really like to have that discussion in generalities soon. Especially because I suspect the perspective she'd offer is quite different from mine based on the different teams we work with. Hers is kinda fucked up politically. I can probably go as far as pointing that out to her, but beyond that, I can't really say more than I would in front of the rest of the committee. Now we are a pretty frank bunch and l think we put out the most challenging stuff, to the candidates, so....
Wait. Y'all. I was ON THE HIRING COMMITTEE. I didn't have it when it happened but I guess my day old new title promotion is worth some shit. Besides money.

I was all, sure, I'll sit in on the interviews,..then my opinion was solicited and it just all now made me realize.
OK, I feel like I just hit the definition of middle-age, work wise: I'm surprised (and appalled??) when anyone younger than me is in charge of anything, and also surprised when anyone older than me is not in a position of authority. BOTH OF WHICH REACTIONS ARE STUPID. And both of which will continue to happen for the next 20 years.
Omg. Second day of five and already I am super tempted to call in sick to work. Can't handle this 6am nonsense. If it was a hour long thing I'd go back to sleep after, but it lasts until around noon.
