I finally got the info for summer school and it is laughable.
If Mac fails any of the state standardized tests he has to take a thing called EOC and re-take the test at the end. We won't know his test scores until early June. Registration is June 6 and classes start June 7.
If he fails a core subject class, he can take it over for credit recovery. We will know if he fails by late May. Those classes might be offered 3 times over ge summer, depends on demand. They run for 2 weeks each session 5.5 hours a day.
To get a credit out of the way he can take a few courses. These also depend on demand, are offered for 2 sessions that run 3 weeks each also 5.5 hours a day.
EOC runs June 7 to July 7. Unclear on times. Period 1 = 8 - 10, Period 2 = 10 - 12, Period 3 = 1 - 3 Credit recovery - session 1 June 7 - 21; session 2 June 22 - July 7; session 3 July 11 - 21.: 7:30 - 1 Credit advancement - session 1 June 7 - 28; session 2 June 29 - July 21.
So if he has to take any EOC, then the only credit recovery option will be session 3 ( and the re-test for EOC will interfere) and he will not be able to do credit advancement.
If I am reading things correctly, if he only fails one test, then he is only there for one period every other day (math & science are M/W, English & history are T/ Th) . That is 2 hours twice a week for a month and then he would have 5.5 hours a day for 2 weeks. That would not get him any credits ahead for next year, in fact he would still be behind because he will fail his fine arts requirement this year and cannot fix that over the summer.
Grrr! They couldn't offer just one advancement session that did not overlap with EOC?!? I just wanted him to take heAlth to get it done with since it is required.
