Today is going better so far. I fiddled with the mass air flow sensor on the old car and it was acting fine when I drove it last night and this morning, but the jerky acceleration doesn't happen all the time so I don't know if it did any good. Jerky acceleration is a pain in the ass as it seems like about a million things can cause it. There may also be some electrical issue with the car, but that doesn't show up very often. It's such a frustrating vehicle. Most of the time it runs perfectly but these little issues show up every so often, but not consistently enough for a mechanic to be able to see the problem.

About the MAF sensor: our Echo is a 2000, and in the time that I've had it, I had to pull the MAF sensor and clean it maybe 3 times. Last month it was at the mechanic for a new alternator, and they called us to tell us that it was driving "weird" when they test-drove it, so they were going to take another look and see what the problem was.

After 2 days, they still couldn't figure it out. I finally asked what they meant by driving "weird," and they said it was hesitating sometimes when accelerating. I mentioned the MAF sensor (seriously, why should *I* have to tell the mechanic what to check???), and they called back later to tell me that was the problem, but cleaning it didn't help and the whole MAF sensor needed to be replaced. (Which is fair; the car is 16 years old). That fixed the problem.

So my point is that maybe you need a whole new MAF sensor, not just to pull it and clean it. (I know you have a Sentra, not an Echo, but the Sentra's issue sounds remarkably similar to the Echo's acceleration issue.)
