Prince has been a musical constant my whole life, from the time I was really aware of music as something I might have my own preferences for (vs. my mom's Barbara Streisand and my dad's country music, which were always on the stereo). Michael Jackson's death was shocking and sad, yet not that surprising. Bowie's death was rough, but his music wasn't as much a part of my life (and certainly not my formative years) as Prince's music was. (I feel like maybe an 11-year-old should NOT have owned some of those albums.)
And he was too damn young.
This sounds stupid, but y'all are going to have to help me when Sondheim dies. And he's 86.
Bloom County just posted a memorial on FB that has friggin broke me. I had been holding it together somewhat until then.
I almost started to make a list of artists whose death would upset me, but then I realized that was just asking the universe to kick us all in the teeth.
huh, cannot find my Lovesexy CD.
I think Purple Rain just started on MTV, for what it's worth.
I feel like all the middle aged suburban parents (like me) just got home from work and are going, "Where the fuck are my Prince CDs??"
mac not knowing who Prince is and his music saddens me.
