Luckily the noisemakers closed up about 10 minutes after I posted last night.

Today I'm going to the Roots Music Festival. Should be several hours of enjoyable Rockabilly and Bluegrass before the Country band drives me from the park.

UGH! My breakfast just exploded. I was going to make pancakes, but the bisquick bottle popped open and poured out when I tapped the bottom to mix the dry cornmeal (after I took special care to tighten the lid!). Oh well, I guess it's the universe's way of telling me I didn't need a filling breakfast.

We were out last night, and a friend of a friend (we've met this guy twice, I think) said that he's never seen a movie. Any movie. I can't decide if he was exaggerating, or if he really didn't even see Disney stuff as a kid. (I didn't ask, because he's a bloviator and I really didn't want to get him going.)

I also learned last night that Stella Artois' cider is REALLY good.

Never seen a movie? Hard to believe. I mean it's possible but... a lot of variables beyond "parents never took me" would need to be nailed shut. Maybe home schooled and raised in a very insular community?

I know there are people who don't watch tv, but it's odd to me that a person can be so insulated from popular culture that they aren't aware of a very popular tv show. But then again, there are a lot of things I'm unaware of -- teen idols, for one, I wouldn't be aware of the Black Veil Brides if not for my faux-niece, and I've recently learned there are YouTube stars and I didn't even know it was possible to BE a YouTube star, so I guess it depends on where your world is focused. Still.

Awhile back I was baffled by what seemed to me the sudden appearance of motorcycle club romance novels and even more baffled by the appeal of same. (I'm a somewhat unusual romance reader/writer in that I don't particularly like bad boy heroes--give me a conventionally heroic badass GOOD guy, thankyouverymuch.)

It wasn't a big thing to me, so whenever I'd see someone talking up the latest motorcycle club series, I'd just shrug and say, "Why is that even sexy? Oh well, not my catnip." It was only when I accidentally happened across discussion of the Sons of Anarchy series finale that the light dawned. With stuff like TV, I tend to know what I watch myself and what's sufficiently genre-adjacent to it that people in my shows' fandoms watch it, so Sons of Anarchy managed its whole run without impinging itself on my awareness.

That was my assumption, too. So I cheerfully ignored it and kept offering Nerd 101 tips to my friend. (At her work, the IT guy fixed something and said it was the flux capacitor. She asked, in all seriousness, "Is that from Star Trek?" So I told her she needed serious tutoring in Nerd 101. Though I don't necessarily think Back to the Future is Nerd 101, but Star Trek is, so she needs Nerd 101 to be able to identify what is and isn't from Star Trek.) At the convention. I got here when the doors opened to get a good parking spot (I did), so I've been here about 2 hours already. We officially start in 20 minutes. I posted a couple of pictures on FB.

It is so heartening seeing so many Democrats in one place. Moving to Colorado was a bit of a political culture shock. Most of the people I met when I first moved here were Republicans.

I've been fairly social, talking to strangers. It is like I don't even know me.

As for the storm, it had been cold and rainy. There has been some snow but nothing was sticking as of at least a half hour ago. I'm trying to be hopeful that this bodes well for the drive home later.

The only Back to the Future I've seen in the one in the Old West. Things set in high school don't really appeal (and yes, a lot of Buffy makes me impatient. I watch it for Giles, I related to the long-suffering grown up_

32 is just a few years younger than me, and I remember Back to the Future being on TV all the time when I was a kid and teenager. Like, I don't know how anyone could have NOT seen it at least once, unless they didn't watch TV at all.
