meara, I'm sorry today has been so rotten.
The office cat let me pick her up and hold her in my lap for a while this morning. So in a week and a half she's grown to trust me more than the cats I've been taking care of over two years do.
Matt, thank you for taking in those kitties. Even though their feral fears keep them from loving up on you to show you, they are grateful. And it may not simply be the trust factor - my Sammie trusts me in a way that she trusts no one else, but comfortable with being held is something she never will be. If I am trying to hold her, she is struggling to get away.
Aw, meara, I really hope that is the end of the shiftiness of today, it certainly sounds like Enough.
Some cats are just proximity cats. Some believe you will float away if they don't anchor you. Cats.
And some are happy to anchor you down as long as you don't give them the idea that you are in any way in control of the situation. Perhaps by petting them a slightly too possessive manner.
They do both seek me out for petting, it's true, and Jackson is fine with sprawling across my legs when I'm in bed as long as the decision is his rather than mine.
Camo is so much smaller than either (like barely more than half their weight) that it may be more physically comfortable for her to be picked up. I can easily support her with one arm, and both her hind feet fit in the palm of my hand.
Camp sounds Pumpkin sized. Loki requires both arms. And is being an asshole. Broke some pottery, luckily epoxiable, but now my house stinks of epoxy.
Matt, I assume that Sammie seeking me out for pettings is a result of a similar depth of affection as Harvey leaping into my arms to be held, just that she is a non-hugger and he is a prodigiously huggable cat.
Finn has gradually started to enjoy being held, which is lovely because he is so very, very soft. Eddie is a snugglebug to the point of being a pest.
While Loki is definitely the 'making you my bed' cat, Pumpkin regularly ambushes me by climbing me. And not talking about the post shower shoulder ride; full on climbing up my clothes to plead in my face. She was super needy tonight; no idea why.
