Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

How do you be a good mentor?

Try to remember most of the stuff that made you think, "The fuck? And you were planning to tell me this when?" and rattle it off to your mentee like it's old hat.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Thanks for asking, Steph. He's still critical, although they are still technically in "fighting stage." (Not a technical term, I realize) so, recovery is unlikely but death is not imminent. Something could happen at any time of course, but for now we're hanging in. My brother in law and my mom have both come down with colds, likely contracted while at the hospital under stress without sleeping or eating. My swine flu immunity seems to be holding up so far, yay swine flu.

So the upshot is, I've shifted to taking longer shifts at the hospital vigil, to make sure she rests and recovers. But don't worry, 'ffistas, I'm practicing self care! I went out for a long lunch at some weird farm to table buffet place, went to Ulta, and the outlet mall, all yesterday during a break.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Hang in there, Liese. That must be really hard.

How many times has he done "They call me--Tim!"

Less often than you might think.

Heard about Zubik vs. Burwell on NPR this morning. That's the SCOTUS case where religious-affliated employers are making the case that the accommodation to avoid having to provide birth-control in their heath insurance plan is an undue burden. They have to send the government a letter opting out of providing birth control along with contact information for the health plan administrator/provider. The government then takes care of the birth-control aspect.

Seriously, that's an undue burden? Is the government supposed to just figure things out without being notified? Craziness.

I thought the same thing Gud. It is the exact opposite of undue burden.
