So it's an "odds are good, but once it's proven all bets are off"?

Asbestos comes in two flavors, friable and non-. Friable means you can crumble it with your fingers. Likely places for asbestos include insulation around pipe elbows, siding, and shingles. Also some textured ceilings, the only one that's friable if intact. If none of those things is damaged in her apartment, it's probably okay. Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mesothelioma is technically possible to get from a single exposure, but the other stuff is hardcore exposure over time (asbestosis, lung cancer). The EPA no longer allows single use paper masks around asbestos, but that's again workplace guidelines. An NIOSH N-95 or P-100 may provide some protection.
Source: trainings on asbestos when I worked in construction recycling, and a little googling just now.
Thank you much, smonster! I figured you'd have the intel. Her place doesn't have a textured ceiling as I recall, and I think the only thing damaged was the wall around a window. Sounds like she's probably okay to go in and get her stuff. That's a relief.
Timelies all!
The Metro shutdown doesn't affect me personally, as I drive to work, but Gary will be taking another telework day.(He teleworked Friday and Monday, for non-Metro reasons)
So it's super early yet, but Clinton is ahead in Ohio, and Kasich is ahead of Trump (thank you, Tim [who really did request a GOP ballot and vote for Kasich]).
Ugh asbestos? We have an old house so there was asbestos, including the friable kind, insulating the heaters. Sigh. And asbestos tiles in the floor. Dealing with it was not fun.
Kat! I have a small world encounter for you. I am meeting with an old HS friend tomorrow for the first time in like 25 years. She used to have a yarn store in the Valley and says she knows you. My reaction was Of Course!
Guess I should go watch the Breaking News. I'm sitting here doing a marathon of editing anyway so why not have something mildly stressful on the TV? Oh, hey, I have ice cream. Calories ahoy.
My day has included translating a washing machine manual from Italian, line by line in google translate.
I did that in Czech once. We ended up sobbing from laughter on the bathroom floor. "Filthy underthings" was a direct translation...I still remember that 20 years later. Goddamn, that really was 20 years ago right now. Spring 1996.
shrift, when I got put on the spot by my director to simply describe what I do in an all hands meeting, I basically said "make sure the data's not broken and fix it if it is." Aawwwwkwaaaaard.
Relatedly, I inadvertently threatened my boss today in a meeting. In a joking response to a joking offer to being open to bribes to move over contracts, I kinda pointed out that all the work I'm doing now, that only I know how to do because we thought it would go away (so no training others) with a new system that I'm providing input to dev that only I can, as it is a coded version of me, which the only resource to test is me... I can't do, train, or test after the contract ends April 30 unless they move me over. And I'm overcommitted as is. Undercurrent being the bribery should be reversed, haha!
I got a nervous visit 15 minutes after meeting, seeking assurances I was definitely trying to jump contracts.
3/4 of the family voted. #1 son took an Uber 40 miles to go vote where he is registered. #2 son said he would vote in November when it counted. Of course DH and I both voted.
Random Florida voting report. The last couple weeks I have been in 100% Spanish speaking medical offices training doctors stuff. I had my Voted sticker on my purse and was often told how great that was and how important it is to vote. I don't get involved with talking politics on the job, but there was a lot of enthusiasm, and I really don't think they were Trump supporters. I did have one doctor tell me he was sad to not be able to vote for Biden. Also, another nice thing about these past couple weeks has been Cuban coffee at every office. Yum.
Daaaang. CNN is projecting the Ohio GOP winner as Kasich.
