Okay, more thoughts.
Nonspoilery - I thoroughly enjoyed all of the crossover meetups. Every time two characters from adjacent universes introduced themselves? SOLID GOLD. (Semi-spoilery:
"I am Groot" "I am Steve Rogers" BWAHAHAHA LOVE. Groot making Thor's ax handle out of his arm? LOOOOOOVE. I am Team Groot.)
I am unsure about the ending. It was
on the one hand extremely upsetting, but also weakened by knowing most of them have sequels coming out in the next couple of years?
I was really really expecting
Tony to die. Obviously it's worse for him the way it happened instead.
All in all, I was impressed with how successfully this move pulled off having ALL THE CHARACTERS in it, and giving everyone a few moments to shine without feeling like a roll call. And I liked that Thanos
had a good meaty arc of his own, which was a relief after 19 movies where he just shows up after the credits to sit in a chair at us. Gamora
broke my heart.
Here's a question (spoilery)
when they've got him sedated on Titan, why not just CUT HS FREAKING ARM OFF? Wouldn't that have been a lot faster and easier than trying to pull the gauntlet off his clenched fist?
Jessica, yes to your last question! If I had been watching at home I would have been yelling at the screen.
Yes! Afterwatd my friend and I were grabbing each other yelling
"Cut his arm off! Always go for the head!"
(No worries, we are quiet in theaters.)
I was prepared for things that did not happen, and quite unprepared for many things that did happen.
And now because I am a geek I have to spend the next year trying to figure out how they're going to fix this.
Me too, msbelle. Still wrung out a day later. And weirdly resistant to devotedly thinking about it -getting a lot of other media consumed to distract myself.
Well put, Zen, with the things and preparedness.
I find myself not wanting to read fic about it. I just want to sit with it a bit.
My biggest question is:
Why the fuck didn't Fury call Carol during the first Battle of New York
?????
I have to spend the next year trying to figure out how they're going to fix this.
I've already started! My thinking is
The six original Avengers are still around and there are six Infinity Stones. Thanos will be defeated, but the Infinity Stones will be scattered again, so each of the Avengers has to go collect a stone, so that they can press the Undo button and restore everyone to life.
•
They telegraphed it pretty clearly that Steve will have to collect the Soul Stone, since he was all like "we don't leave anyone behind," and he will need to make a sacrifice to get the stone. Plus, he gets to meet his old friend the Red Skull again!
•
Thor will have to collect the Power Stone; with the Hulk out of commission, he is the only one who can pick it up without getting killed.
•
Since Bruce has the Hulk trapped in his mind, it fits that he will be the one to collect the Mind Stone. It was established in Avengers 1 that he is drawn to the Mind Stone.
Beyond that, it gets murky.
Tom Scola is a wizard for having all the big ideas while I am all still. Wha?!? Wail! Pain!
