I'm finding it difficult to image a scenario where they DON'T fuck it up.

Well, it's complete, so they won't have to make up anything on their own...I'm not sure I think it should be made into a TV show at all, but I would be pleased to be proved wrong about that
Sigh. Yeah, I'd have to see some real strong reviews to give that a try, despite being a fan of the books.
I've just finished watching Midnight Diner on Netflix. You won't like it if reading subtitles bothers you, but if you enjoy heartfelt stories wth an emotional payoff about how someone can really love curry ramen or cream stew, this one might float your boat.
The story started out as manga before it was televised and it's about a mysterious chef known only as the Master who runs an izakaya in a tiny alleyway in Tokyo's Shinjuku district that is open from midnight to seven am. Recurring characters make this one more fun than Cheers. I'm only sorry there aren't any more episodes for me to watch.
I love that show, KB!
I saw a mention about a documentary - Criterion, I think - about a country fiddler. It's called Sprout Wings and Fly if anyone's interested.

A Les Blank movie! He also did Gap Toothed Women.
