Anya: We should drop a piano on her. It always works for that creepy cartoon rabbit when he's running from that nice man with the speech impediment. Giles: Yes, or perhaps we could paint a convincing fake tunnel on the side of a mountain.

'Touched'

ita's thread

A place where we can talk about ita, miss ita, and share information about memorials. The hugging started over here in Natter.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I did a memorial/tribute thing on Twitter but I guess it's more about me.

I've had all that inside for a year though and this seemed like a good occasion to get it out.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Okay, I did click on that one. I am appropriately disturbed.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

The link is a perfect tribute, in its way.

If it weren't for her, would we have known about that, no.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Aside from the deeper personal loss, which I don't want to minimize, I have been constantly reminded this year with a kind of aggrieved ache because...

She didn't get to grouse about Black Widow in the Avengers.

She didn't get to watch Jessica Jones or see Luke.

She didn't get to see Rey and Finn in Star Wars.

She won't get to see the next Agent Carter.

She won't get to see T'Challa.

And most of all, she didn't get to see Furiosa.

Probably the best year in pop culture history for badass women characters. It's just so galling and unfair.

Among other things.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

What I emailed to ita's sister:

At 1:00 PM today, I went for a walk with Grace, Noah and Katie. Last year, after ita died, I wallowed for a while. And at some point, I realized how blessed I am to have this body, as fat and out of shape as it is and how ita was a person who loved to move. If she could move, she did, with gusto. I made a promise to begin moving more and to lose weight again.

So I've been running. And it sucks. I hate it, but I do it anyway. In the last three months of 2015, I ran 250 miles. This year, my goal is to (with two other people), run as close to 2016 miles as I can. I think about ita all the time and I still miss her. I wonder what she would have thought about Jessica Jones and what she would have thought about Mike Colter playing Luke. I wonder if she would have loved Rey in Star Wars or if she'd make as much fun of emo Kylo Ren as I want to. I just wish I could talk to her again and tell her how much she means to me and my family.

Anyway, here's the picture of me and Grace on our run. I have on my Pink Gingham Junta shirt and Grace is wearing a pink gingham rosette.

Related, JZ, how did you make the rosettes. I tried, but mine is ugly!

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Our wings are not tired.

Love the links and memories. Posted some pictures of toasting ita with Ting at the beach. The Jamaican market had curried goat, but I decided against going that far. DH said he'll run and get some and happily down some for ita.

I tucked a bit of pink gingham ribbon in my winter coat pocket this morning.

When I went to take it out & take a picture, discovered the forgotten hole in the pocket ate it and now it's lost somewhere in the lining.

Like so much else, not sure where to go with that.
