I'm seeing two rows of volunteers creating shoots on either side of the 1/2 mile markers, into which runners can funnel. Each volunteer holds one of those large punching pads.
That way, runners would not have to slow down completely or stop in order to get their pound on.
Also, those who have expended their smack-happiness, or conscientious objectors can keep running down the middle of the route.
Otherwise, you'd get the kind of bottleneck that might inspire them to hit each other. #1 way to ensure it does not become an annual event!
You could get Krav and MMA schools and teams to sponsor the shoots, with their logos on the pads.
On alternate 1/2 mile markers, you could have premade ice bags for knuckles. I wonder if the increased adrenaline and circulation would naturally reduce swelling.
Hm.
Well, you can alternate kicking and punching. 1/2 punchy, 1/2 mile kicky -- whatever suits your pleasure.
That sounds like total fun!
I would do a 5Krav! I would do the HELL out of it!
The finisher medal would be pink gingham, of course. Or the medal would be an appropriate symbol, but on a pink gingham ribbon.
I would totally do that. I would fly to LA to do a 5Krav for ita's charity.
If this happens, I am so there.
It's a lovely idea, but my experience with races is that they are massive undertakings. If you're serious, consider contacting A Runner's Circle, a local running shop. They've partnered with other nonprofits and have a good sense of what it takes to put one together.
We do a 5K every year for a trout restoration org that has, at tops, 50 participants. I always come in dead last! It's awesome and idiosyncratic and I imagine ita's 5Krav could be the same.
LA is a huge running town. I've never been to a race with fewer than 500. But I'm all in if we could make it work. I know my running team would participate and fundraise.
I would NEVER do something like this without the backing of ita's family and the Buffistas. Never.
But if we want to make it happen, I will make it happen.
